MSNBC host Chris Matthews wondered if the Democratic Party would be better off if President Trump wins reelection rather than if Sen. Bernie Sanders takes over the White House.
Matthews, 74, brought up the possibility that centrist Democrats may prefer Trump over the socialist Sanders during the network's Saturday afternoon coverage of the Nevada caucuses. The host of Hardball with Chris Matthews was leading a conversation about how centrist candidates were splitting the vote, likely a detriment to one another but a benefit for Sanders.
"Im wondering whether the Democratic moderates want Bernie Sanders to be president," he said. "Thats maybe too exciting a question to raise. They dont like Trump at all. Do they want Bernie Sanders to take over the Democratic Party in perpetuity? I mean, he takes it over, he sets the direction of the future of the party maybe theyd rather wait four years and put in a Democrat that they like."
"I mean, thats the big question, right?" Adrienne Elrod, a former senior adviser to Hillary Clinton, responded. "And you know, the narrative that youre starting to see play out, Chris, is that there are people that are concerned, strategists that are concerned that Bernie Sanders being at the top of the ticket will force us to lose the House. I dont necessarily think thats the case."
Matthews has frequently disparaged the Vermont senator in recent days, accusing Sanders of being "full of it" and arguing that he'd be a "miserable president" if he got elected. He has also predicted that Sanders would lose 49 states if he went up against Trump in the general election.
The network host also warned his viewers about candidates who support socialism.

The media personal are communist the owners are NOT. It will be the first test of actual loyalty to their masters.
Because Democratic socialism and corporatism are nearly identical
Democratic socialism is state controlled property vs State owned with Marxist socialism.
President Trump is a cash cow for the DNC. I don’t think they really want him out of office.
In case you haven’t heard, Joe Lieberman is in a nursing home.
It’s a rare day indeed when Chris Matthews makes more sense than Clint East wood.
Really???? Here he is just a couple of years ago. did he have a stroke?

They gave up.
Without a good candidate I can't see them pulling in the cash
I understand you thinking that way but you are wrong. Think about all of the times we’ve tried to “teach” the GOPe a lesson. It just doesn’t work.
As another Freeper has said on here, you can vote in socialism but you will have to shoot your way out of it.
No exiling unless you mean straight to the gulag or reeducation camps. Of course, one of the first stage of a communist takeover are the firing squads, so I doubt they’ll get sent to the camps.
It was a joke. A lot of people on this blog have no sense of humor.
How in the world are we suppose to know that is a joke. The guy is old enough to have issues that could end up in a nursing home.
Harry Truman?
Chris Matthews is obviously a Russian operative. /sarc
President Trump will be reelected, possibly in a landslide.
Republicans need to concentrate on taking the House from the rats and hanging on to, perhaps strengthening their hold on the Senate.
Gee Chrissy, ya think?
I don’t get it. Far-left Obama gave him a tingle up his leg but he’s against far-let Sanders. Oh wait, I forgot, being left wing means never having to be consistent.
The Democrats are getting what they’ve pushed for all along, socialism/communism. Yet suddenly they are getting cold feet.
They did not learn one of mom’s truisms:
Be careful what you wish for, you might just get it.
