MSNBC host Chris Matthews wondered if the Democratic Party would be better off if President Trump wins reelection rather than if Sen. Bernie Sanders takes over the White House.
Matthews, 74, brought up the possibility that centrist Democrats may prefer Trump over the socialist Sanders during the network's Saturday afternoon coverage of the Nevada caucuses. The host of Hardball with Chris Matthews was leading a conversation about how centrist candidates were splitting the vote, likely a detriment to one another but a benefit for Sanders.
"Im wondering whether the Democratic moderates want Bernie Sanders to be president," he said. "Thats maybe too exciting a question to raise. They dont like Trump at all. Do they want Bernie Sanders to take over the Democratic Party in perpetuity? I mean, he takes it over, he sets the direction of the future of the party maybe theyd rather wait four years and put in a Democrat that they like."
"I mean, thats the big question, right?" Adrienne Elrod, a former senior adviser to Hillary Clinton, responded. "And you know, the narrative that youre starting to see play out, Chris, is that there are people that are concerned, strategists that are concerned that Bernie Sanders being at the top of the ticket will force us to lose the House. I dont necessarily think thats the case."
Matthews has frequently disparaged the Vermont senator in recent days, accusing Sanders of being "full of it" and arguing that he'd be a "miserable president" if he got elected. He has also predicted that Sanders would lose 49 states if he went up against Trump in the general election.
The network host also warned his viewers about candidates who support socialism.

i got a tingle up my leg when I heard it..
Tingles is a Rooskie Ass[et].
Uh, Chrissie. What about the democrat party is “moderate?”
We WILL be better off with Trump as President than ANY dimdulbcRat.
The last moderate Dem either died or left the party long ago.
Go Bernie then. I so want a rout of socialism and the left.
There are no centrist Democrats running.
He’ll certainly cost them the House. He will win the youth vote, but lose the “American” vote.
Ooooh, the fat lady just jumped the singing shark.
Or something.
“MSNBC’s Chris Matthews speculates Democrats may be better off with Trump as president than Sanders”
Well, he is right. Under Trump 2.0, they’ll have GREAT JOBS (although it may mean having to wash grease off their hands, ehhh, after work). And that would even apply to the Anti-American Majors at today’s universities.
Under Bernie, they’ll be Bowing Down to him and is surrogates, and if they don’t bow low enough, their entire life changes, for the worse, the far worse. Same for their families.
The only ‘downside’ for them is that they won’t get to exact REVENGE on conservatives, until 2025, at the earliest.
Rat party falling apart. Though they’re still assassinating people. We got a long way to go still but we’re on the right track
Joe Lieberman
Interesting how wealthy Dems like Chris are all for the whacky ideas of their party (GND, etc) until they realize that it will probably hit their OWN pocketbook..
Remember Chris Matthews and the MSM are corportist driven. They would lose everything under socialism that they’re almost identical to
I keep seeing people saying this, as though there would be no difference in the way a Bloomberg would govern as opposed to how a Sanders would govern. I mean they may both be to the left of anyone on FreeRepublic, but certainly there are significant distinctions between them.
That Boom you just heard was the Democrat ballot down ballot exploding...
Youve lost that tingling feeling
Whoa oh that tingling feeling
Youve lost that tingling feeling
And its gone, gone, gone, whoa oh oh
Where pigs flying over New York City when Matthews made these comments?
