Kinsley Sandvik had a vibrant laugh and, according to her mother, everyone was her friend.
If you met her, you fell in love with her. No one was a stranger to this child, not even the pizza man, said mom Shannon Sandvik. Id say, Dont talk to strangers, and shed say, Im not, and Id say, OK, well, whats his name? And shed say, The Pizza Man.
Shannon Sandvik said her daughter was an amazing athlete, playing on a travel soccer team three or four days a week. The young girl was the life of the party and a ball of energy. She was never sick until this month.

The article doesn’t mention whether or not she got a flu shot this year.
Are flu shots recommended for young folks?
Anyone who has extensive contact with the public or chronic respiratory disease.
Yes they are and this is why.
There are lots of controversial and confusing things about influenza vaccines
One thing is not controversial, and that is that influenza deaths/100 000 population are reduced by vaccination.
I got mine last October and so far so good. Knock on wood.
The only time I’ve ever been hospitalized for an illness was when I was in for complications from the flu. And I’d gotten my shot that year. I got one of the strains they didn’t vaccinate for. A really nasty one.
We get flu shots annually.
A kid got sick and died. Sad for sure, but not sure why it’s newsworthy. Approximately 200 kids age 5-9 die every day on the US. I can’t figure out why this is any different from the rest of them. The other families are just as upset etc.
Never had a flu shot but 8 years old is far-far behind me.
Still hard to tell what happened to her, how it happened.
If it was the flu then the headline is a lie.
Well I guess YOU'LL never know...
Death of a child is important. There’s too much news on who wore what or said silly.
Influenza vaccination is complicated. Flu travels North South in opposition to the sun. When they anticipate next years vaccine they chose (or in the past have chosen) two emerging strains from the SOuthern Hemisphere and one that was going strong at the end of the season in the North last year. So you really only get protection for three strains. Which makes it hard to research because the vaccine very likely has an effect on which strains ultimately become a problem in the North (or South depending on where you are). But it is an uncontested fact, as noted above, fewer people die with a vaccination program in place.
If you arent tired at bedtime look up the list of current influenza strains circulating. Faster than counting sheep.
Complication of flu, sepsis
It comes fast and deadly
Cautionary tale for parents
But not sure if anything would have saved her

I work in healthcare, and am mandated to either get a flu shot, or wear a mask at work.
I get the flu shot. I know there is a little risk, and I know it won’t protect me against all variants, but I get the vaccine.
I have never had the flu that I am aware of (knock on wood) but it looks so miserable, that if it keeps me from getting even one episode of one variety, that is five minutes well spent.
On a lighter note, the mom also said that being the subject of a story on the radio would have made her daughter very happy: She would have loved this. Im not even kidding. She wanted to be famous so bad.
AYFKM?
::shakes head:: How sad. How sad....
Awww, jeez. This ought to be a cautionary tale for parents. I know there are people out there for whom flu shots are contraindicated, but those folks are just another reason to get the shot if your doc recommends it.
She died of septicemia, blood poisoning.
Someone stuck a dirty needle into her? How else do you infect blood?
