A kid got sick and died. Sad for sure, but not sure why it’s newsworthy. Approximately 200 kids age 5-9 die every day on the US. I can’t figure out why this is any different from the rest of them. The other families are just as upset etc.

Death of a child is important. There’s too much news on who wore what or said silly.

I think your numbers are off, that would be 70,000 children 5 to 9 dying each year here. With 20 million in this age group and a death rate of 13 per 100,000, only about 2600 die.

“200 kids age 5-9 die every day” is a cold statistic. The story of one such death makes the statistic meaningful and the anguish palpable. That in no way means one child’s death matters more than the others. It represents them all.
