The deadly coronavirus rapidly sweeping the world kills up to 15 per cent of patients over the age of 80, scientists have revealed.

Chinese health officials carried out the biggest ever study on the never-before-seen strain of the virus, using data from 72,000 cases.

Results showed the SARS-CoV-2 virus posed the greatest threat to older patients and those with underlying conditions, such as cancer.

Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention researchers also found 80.9 per cent of infections are mild. Less than five per cent are critical.

A separate group of virologists studying the coronavirus have also claimed it is up to 20 times more infectious than its deadlier sister SARS.

More than 73,000 cases have been recorded worldwide, with 99 per cent in China. Almost 1,900 patients have already died.

The phrase "a feature, not a bug" comes to mind.

If you isolate Hubei, the mortality is much lower. With today’s numbers, mortality outside of Mainland China is 3% if you only consider dead and recovered. I’m concerned that so many people are taking a LONG time to recover. It seems for many, this virus has been a long and very difficult process. I wonder how many survivors will be left with debilitating cardio-pulmonary conditions. In China, they would let such people die. In the west, we will spend billions to keep them alive.

This virus is similar to the flu. It does cause pneumonia. And that can cause death, especially in the elderly and long time smokers or other people with lung damage.

The reality is that China has a lot of smokers. Many adult men smoke in China. And China has some very bad pollution in many cities.

Because the virus was covered up until after the start of the Chinese new year mass migration, the virus spread more than would be usual. Other things helped the spread. The virus causes lots of coughing which spreads the germs because the germs live in the respiratory system. And the virus seems to spread before and after fever. So many people with the virus are at school or work. That being said. The virus is similar to in most respects to the common flu.

The only way to prevent humanity’s extinction by the corona virus is to ban all petroleum fuels, increase taxes, confiscate civilian firearms, ban free speech, enslave whitey and go all-in socialist.

My wife is prone to getting anxious by scary news stories. I have been telling her “until someone who isn’t Chinese dies of this outside of China, it’s not something to lose sleep over because we aren’t Chinese and we’re not in China.” She can’t deny that reality.

How could that be a surprise when anyone over 80 doesn’t get medical treatment in the Chinese worker’s paradise.

If you isolate Hubei, the mortality is much lower.

True, the first place an outbreak started would be where one would expect to see the most cases.

Still, the Hubei numbers seem disproportionately higher than the surrounding areas.

Possibly it had a much longer 'runway' in Hubei, or maybe the surrounding areas are under reporting, and trusting the CCP to honestly report a disaster is a mug's game, not that it stops me from running with their numbers! Not that I trust even my results...

As to the low numbers outside the Middle Kingdom? Maybe it's a difference in the genetic vulnerability, maybe it really is the smoking and pollution, or maybe it is still working on the taxi part of the runway Hubei pioneered.

Give it a couple weeks.

Um, it's definitely higher than that. China's official numbers, as of yesterday, had the overall death rate so far at 15%. Older people are definitely a larger percentage.

This virus does not affect caucasions or blacks very much. White women are the least able to get it.
It has to do with ACE2 cells which attract the virus, Asian men have the most ACE2 cells, white men and women the least

Asian male smokers get it the most.

There's a new case in South Korea:

"The woman has not been abroad, raising concerns again over the spread of the disease without a link to known clusters of the COVID-19 virus.

South Korea reports one more case of coronavirus, total now at 31

That’s all true. I’m not speculating on anything about it. But that infection rate, so far, regardless of how many lies the CCP has told, won’t change much in a population of 1.4 billion.
