China’s novel coronavirus, COVID-19, has killed and infected more people than officially reported. In one day, total reported infections and deaths increased 44% and 23%, respectively...merely because “the government changed the criteria by which it tracks confirmed cases.”
The official tally has been an underestimate and is still catching up to reality. About 99% of the cases have been reported in China.
...before the adjustment, circumstances suggested weeks ago that “the outbreak is spreading far beyond the official count of cases.” Many causes contribute to this undercounting.
It is inconceivable that the Chinese government would wilfully suffer such a cost for the sake of a few dozen — or even a few hundred — lives.

It wasn't a health article. It was a political and economic assessment. In fact, had that same article been written by a "health professional" I would have discounted it more, not less.
I have every reason to believe (my own opinion) that the author is absolutely correct.

Agree. It’s easy to forget that the rest of the world is watching Nascar and having BBQs while we are drinking up the news. Last week, Rush set off a Leftist firestorm by saying that Mayor Pete and his partner ‘kissing’ on a national stage might not go over too well with middle America. I speculated that many people wouldn’t know Pete’s lifestyle choice and would not be told, by the media. A lady here replied that her husband had no idea of his lifestyle choice...amazing.
As to Coronavirus, starting this week, people will start seeing empty spaces on store shelves, and the inability to replace their phones. They’ll ask what’s up, and that will be the FIRST TIME they even find out that China is having problems, much less massive problems. And they’ll still have no clue as to what that means for us and the rest of the West (pretty much the same for most here, too, in that regard). But everyone will come up to speed quickly...they’ll have no choice.

Thanks, there was a Zero Hedge article that had the now non-existent traffic in China. The SCARY PLOT was a JP Morgan chart on coal consumption, pretty much all used to generate power. The consumption dropped 42% for the Lunar New Year...just as it did last year. What changed was that last year, that 42% was recovered the following week - but this year, 2 weeks out and counting, NO CHANGE, none of the 42% has come back, and if anything, consumption has even dropped a bit.
It’s bad there, but since I’m not a power company executive, I’m not permitted to comment on it (according to some people here), so I won’t.

The overreaction may be political —Hong Kong may have shaken the CCP ever more than we suspect and may have been spreading — as much as it is health related. Time will tell if they are scared crazy about a plague or are just Obama’ing and refusing a good crisis go to waste.

42% drop in power consumption translates to a 42% drop in production. Talking heads suggesting China will go from 6% growth to 5% growth. I’d put more weight on coal shipments, and on factories all over the world shutting down temporarily because no parts, no finished product.
Personally, I am leaning towards this being U.S. intelligence “services” 7th way from Sunday to get back at President Trump. Wuhan Institute of Virology accident is the other plausible possibility.

Should have been stopped a month ago. Not just stopping some from the hardest hit areas; not just "monitoring" people getting off in 11 airports in the US (that is complete BS). We really screwed the pooch on this one.

trying to think what purpose this has as a bioweapon if it wipes out their own people. Maybe they were trying to find the vaccine that saves them but kills off Caucasians...but it escaped into the wild by accident
That is what perhaps scares me the most. Even basics like ibuprofen and acetaminophen are all from China! The numbers are really awful - something like 80% of all manufactured drugs from China BUT something like 95% of all precursor materials used to manufacture drugs come from China.
We could be REALLY REALLY screwed here.

Chinese emissions have long been known to trigger rainy weekends in the North East US...week after week, month after month.
We have had beautiful weekends since early December.
