The United States Air Force updated its official dress code policy this month, in observance of religious practices, to allow military personnel to wear turbans or hijabs as a part of the uniform.
The Air Force released an update to the “Dress and Personal Appearance of Air Force Personnel” code on Feb. 7, now permitting airmen to request a waiver to wear religious apparel while in uniform as long as they are “neat and conservative.”
The material used for headwear must resemble the color of the assigned uniform. This includes camouflage, and must be worn in a fashion that presents a “professional and well-groomed appearance.”

Sadly, this has been going on since at least the 80’s when I was in.
This in not India and Muslims are not Sikh’s. Our American Indians were better then Sikh’s.

I would hate to put a helmet over turban, or be constantly checking my six with a Hajib.
But, I guess we old folk will have to see how it works.
I remember late ‘70’s seeing in the Army’s dress code manual, AR 670-1 a picture of how Sikhs are to wear their turbans and ceremonial sword, although I never actually saw one.
I remember those silly Errol Flynn ‘staches.
I would meet up with guys at reunions ten, fifteen years in and you could look across the room and see the active duty pilots and aviators.
I loved the guys. But I have to say we all laughed at those.
The Air Force is destined to become a third world military organization.
I’ve only had to wear a mask in basic. If the mission requires the use of a mask, the beard and turban out the window. I only care if they can shoot, carry my body, not get lost, etc. Conformity has a time and place.
I thought most military members had to repeatedly ID themselves as they went in & out of our various installations.
How will the women do this with their heads & faces covered????

Too many are so quick to make excuses for Sikh non-assimilation yet reject the others. I say all or none, I vote NONE. If you are American, if you join American services, assimilate, conform, leave your tribalism, religions, and all at home, move on, become American or go home, wherever that cesspool might be. Good riddance.
I couldn’t hack the military... So I joined the Air Force...
I deploy for the DOD.. have to be clean shaved for your mask fitting... Next day - start growing the beard again...

My brother in law worked in the Texas Dept of Corrections for years, did a great job, as a reward they asked him to come to Austin for the last few years of his career. He went south fast once he started drinking that Austin kool aid.
Muzlims aren't...I'd be just as concerned to see an airman wearing an upside down cross or swastika on a chain around his neck...
