PHOENIX An organization of moms against gun violence is applauding a recent decision by the Phoenix Union High School Board.
The board voted unanimously last week to require the parent or guardian of the districts 27,000 students to read and sign a gun storage safety form.
"This is just an obvious thing we can do to prevent future tragedies, said board member Lela Alston.
The "Secure Storage Notification Resolution" requires that gun storage and safety information be included in the student handbook of all 27,000 students of the district's 20 high schools.
The resolution was prompted by the groups Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action For Gun Sense in America. It highlights how unlocked guns play a prominent role in unintentional shootings involving children, gun suicides and campus shootings.
Phoenix Union Board President Stephanie Parra said the resolution is a small but meaningful step to educate parents.
From time to time, guns have made an appearance on campuses," said board president Stephanie Parra. When we speak to moms, often it's because the parent did not properly store their firearm at home.

If someone thinks their child or guest is a bit unstable, they should store their guns with a close neighbor, and have that neighbor on speed-dial. In case the neighbor might be slow, arm yourselves with blades or something. And never tell snoopers anything.
The courts have also ruled that felons don’t have to fill out the form as it would violate their 5th Amendment rights.
It’s only used to harass the lawful.
OK, I presume you downloaded the current student handbook which was produced in September of 2019. That's the version of the student handbook linked to by the article, and as far as I can tell the latest version from the school district.
The meeting where the school board voted to add a new "secure storage" notification happened "last week" or more particularly on February 6th, 2020.
So how is reading the old student handbook from 2019 relevant to the content that the school board voted to add in February 2020?
Did you even read the posted article?
Gun?
What is a ‘gun’.
Depends on what the meaning of ‘gun’ is.
cause (an engine) to race.
“as Neil gunned the engine the boat jumped forward”
muscular arms; well-developed biceps muscles.
“it’s encouraging to note that Schwarzenegger wasn’t born with massive guns”
OR maybe they mispelled GUMS. Like, gumming your food, or old people only have gums.
Safe Gum Storage ...
The school district COULD only include in the Student Handbook a report on commonsense safe gun storage practices and hazards that can occur sometimes when common sense safe gun storage practices are not used. And it could require ONLY a parental signing that the parent has read the Student Handbook itself, without addressing any special part of the handbook.
But I think the courts could, and well should, deny the school any right that a parent MUST sign any specific form stating their AGREEMENT with any aspect of the handbook; that would be beyond mere acknowledgment they have read it.
After all the hyper-ventilation on this thread, yes I did read it all.
Relevant is that according to Arizona law (refernced in the handbook), the board must get the parents permission to ask about any thing gun related. So, again, I dont see any down side to providing parent (who may be ignorant themselves) as to how to properly secure guns from unauthorized persons or minors. There is no legal obligation to sign anything here. The law trumps whatever the school board may send out.
Yup,simply NO and more specifically F-No. So what are they going to do?
Not sure how they are going to make anyone sign. The courts have ruled that a public education is a right so they can go pound sand.
Our district tried something like this one year. It was a family pledge to fight drug an alcohol abuse. They didn’t (couldn’t) make anyone sign, but if you didn’t return the form, your kid didn’t get an asterisk next to their name in the student directory. Those who returned the form got the asterisk.
Our kids weren’t even listed in the directory because we opted out altogether.
Only about 10% of those in the directory had the asterisk.
“An organization of moms...” pfffffftttt, that’s when I stopped reading. Pure communistic infiltration that there!
Haha... believe me. We gave one dad quite a razzing over it. He claimed his wife signed and returned the form without his knowledge.
Look again. Given the state of pedagogy in the US for the past several decades, and the numerous languages of immigrants, both legal and illegal, there is no evidence that they can demand any signature attesting that parents have read anythingbecause the parents could be incapable of reading the handbook, paperwork, or included announcements due to illiteracy or language limitationsonly that they have received it, and even then theyd be on legal thin ice: how would the illiterate parents know they needed to sign and return an acknowledgment theyd received it? Circular logic.
Wonder how many forms will be signed illegibly by Bozo the Clown?
GFY is the proper response.
I’d say YES my weapon is safely in my shoulder holster.
Utterly unconstitutional.
I would refuse to sign it, then let them prohibit my kid from attending a PUBLIC school, and then sue the bastards for violating my civil rights under color of authority (Title 42, Section 1983). The officials in question would have PERSONAL liability, per the statute. Since it is federal law, sue them in District Court. Regardless of the outcome, it goes to the Circuit Court and then becomes a very big deal. Possibly it goes to the Supremes.
By replying, you’re playing their game (and, as a bonus, getting your name on yet another list).
I wouldn’t sign it, and hope and pray that they refused to allow my kid to attend school. That lawsuit for violation of my civil rights would make for a nice retirement.
Moms Demand Action - yeah, isn’t that a catagory on certain websites? :>)
It would make more sense to make them sign a ‘safe illegal
drugs storage’ form
