IMO, on planes where people are jammed in like sardines, the recline feature should be disabled.

I agree. Airlines have slowly over the years reduced the seat distance thus adding more seats.

When we fly, we never recline. It is bad etiquette IMHO as people are in those seats like sardines. Our flights are no longer then 4-5 hrs.

Should refrain from reclining in economy class cabin. The only exception is a very long flight when the entire cabin is trying to sleep. Always ask for permission from the person behind you. Always. Otherwise your are only being selfish.

Agreed. At 6’2” tall, a reclined seat presses into my knees and prevents me from opening a notebook computer.

Come back after you’ve had a 3 hour flight with some little 8 year old bastard kicking the back of your seat all the way

so you don't recline but the person in front of you does?....

this is the reason I do not fly.....its almost insanity what they put the airline passenger thru...

The half inch of recline which supposedly brings people sooo much more comfort completely eliminates the knee room for the person behind if they are taller than 6ft.

So I guess people over 6ft should just pay extra to get an extra inch or so of legroom, but that extra inch or so can come at a very high price. Sometimes as much as twice or three times the coach fare.

So the recline wars will continue unabated.

I didn’t reply to that thread but just for the record I would probably ask the person behind me if it would inconvenience them.

I fly maybe cross country twice a year.

Etiquette says you should ask first, then recline slowly; the seatback is entering the person’s personal space.

If instead of the back of the seat reclining the entire seat tilted, then that would be more comfortable for the recliner and allow the person behind to recline as well and regain knee room.

But that would make too much sense … and cost a few cents more which the airlines are unwilling to relinquish.

He was in the last row couldn’t recline to offset her reclined seat.

I put this on her- he shouldn’t have been pushing her seat but she was the a-hole to do that to him.

Source: I was a flight attendant for 28 years. She was intentionally pushing his buttons. Seen it a million times and always sided with the guy behind the a-hole. It is called being courteous on public transportation.
