I hate to think what is going on in North Korea right now.

Lots of diarrhea. And gov't forces them to use poop on the soil to grow crops. NK is screwed.

What a freaking telling interview, at your link, with Maria Bartaromo and Secy Navarro.

China MED supplies, headed for US, turned around...not to mention all of the other supplies we are dependent, upon several nations, on.

The cruise is not really an outlier. It is the fact they do not want to cause panic but can't keep from reporting on what is happening on the cruise. Those people on the cruise are stacked on top of each other and have their food prepared by a single source.

There is a prisoner in England who has the virus and had been in prison for several weeks there before presenting the illness. He did not get it in China as he has not been there. He got it in a Taiwanese prison. Taiwan says they have 18 infected. I would tell you countries have decided to not cause panic by sharing real numbers.

India says they have 3 cases but have supposedly sent a couple of thousand home to self quarantine. Do they have the ability to even test? I saw the cell phone map of 50,000 of the 5mil who left Wuhan for the Chinese New Year. Every country has a huge problem. Those people have been staying in hotels or with relatives. Wuhan before the Chinese New Year was the perfect place to set this thing off whether on accident or purpose.

There's a lot of buzz on the astronomical jump in cases from Hubei on Wednesday -- 14,840 new confirmed cases, almost 10 x compared to a day earlier. New deaths rose to 242, more than double fr day b4. The govt has changed the diagnostic criteria used to confirm cases. 2. Effectively, this means the govt is giving doctors greater discretion to clinically diagnose patients. Previously, they could only confirm cases with the nucleic acid test kits. But a govt expert said recently these were only 30-40 percent accurate. 3. More crucially, we were interviewing patients, who were showing all the symptoms of the new coronavirus, who said they were tested four to five times before they got a positive result. Li Wenliang, the whistleblower doctor, was one of them. 4. Chinese health experts say this is why there's a change: they now realize that there's a group of patients who only test positive very late with the nucleic acid testing. Because of how transmissible the disease is, they want to include these people as confirmed cases. 5. The point is to isolate these patients quickly and treat them. Doctors are now clinically diagnosing these people with CT scans. The advantage of these scans are they are immediate. Previously, patients had to wait at least two days for their results. 6. Samples had to be transported for hours to the province's relatively few labs. The nucleic acid tests are also dependent on the people sampling these patients. There's room for error. But the disadvantage of using CT scans is that they might not catch people w mild symptoms. Sui-Lee Wee 黄瑞黎 @suilee Reporter for @nytimes in China. https://twitter.com/suilee

I expected to have someone challenge me on the cruise ship.

IMO < the cruise ship does not represent a normal person to person in a public arena type situation.

If you wish to count it in as something that is a typical type of event that will be repeated over and over, you certainly can.

I don’t think of most people as being trapped in a situation day after day with infectious people in a closed environment.

It doesn’t work for me, but if it does for you, that’s okay by me.

As for the other situations, I don’t know what to say really. This could be an internationally agreed to protocol.

It’s above my pay grade.

And the cruise ship’s experience may be pertinent to Singapore.

A very close environment, even though good medical facilities and warm temps.
Just keeping that in mind.

"old enough to worry about this Too broke to think that I can do anything other than hunker down and wait for it to pass"

We can hunker down but we're active in our community and our son works in an ER, so we're likely to be exposed. My 94 year old mother has the historical perspective and sense to be concerned, but most of the people I talk to are completely oblivious or assume it won't come here. I heard the suggestion just tonight that our next Scout camping trip be done 'Moroccan style' where we all eat with our hands because we're running short of metal eating utensils . . . OMG! (not happening on my watch). I pray I'm wrong in my concerns. For once, I truly hope I'm wrong.

Comment: Initial tests were negative but retesting

Coroner: Deceased Boise man being tested for possible coronavirus

BOISE, Idaho — Testing is underway on a 71-year-old Boise man who died last week after a trip to China, and officials are trying to determine whether he may have contracted the highly-infectious coronavirus during his trip.
According to the Ada County Coroner’s Office, Frederick M. Gilbert died sometime before February 9. Gilbert’s body was found at his home after he had not been seen for several days.

The coroner says 71-year-old was in “advanced stages of decomposition” when he was found.
According to the office, Gilbert had recently traveled from Shenzen, China to Boise, with stops in Shanghai-Pudong, China and Los Angeles. He arrived at the Boise Airport just before 5 p.m. on February 5.

If that is true it hints at something else.

I have worn an N95 mask, and a full face respirator, for 10 hours straight. Now I learned to not eat anything smelly before putting it on, but I never passed out.

This was routine at one point in my life.

However, if you are having issues breathing through a typical surgical or N95 mask, you have preexisting lung capacity issues. Often times smoking.
