A Pennsylvania family is pleading with their school board to reconsider its policy on "threat assessments" for students, after their 6-year-old daughter with Down Syndrome was reported to police for pointing her finger like a gun.
Margot Gaines, a kindergartener at the Valley Forge Elementary School in Tredyffrin, Pennsylvania, made the gesture in November and told her teacher, "I shoot you," according to her mother, Maggie.
Maggie said her daughter made the comment when her teacher asked her to do something she didn't want to do, but had no idea what the words or the gesture meant.

Idiocracy
Name and shame the teacher
WHY is a SECOND of time being wasted on this by a taxpayer funded school?
HOW is this teacher qualified to educate a child with Downs Syndrome and not simply EDUCATE the child that what she did wasn’t nice and move on?
Suspect school didn’t want to deal with student. In their view, Mom probably should have had n abortion.
The “teacher” seems to have a serious lack of judgment. I wouldn’t want someone this stupid attempting to teach my kids.
That school would freak out if they saw how us kids rough housed on the playground at recess when we were kids.
In my preschool class we teach the kids not to do this so that we don’t have to attract the attention of administrators. Very serious with the kids, because none of us wants consequences outside the classroom.
Its seems a paradox, but experience has taught me you will never meet anyone as rigid, bureaucratic and stupid as an academic.”
No finger at any time is like a gun. But this is no surprise. Public schools have chosen to do this to innocent children. One boy was persecuted for drawing a picture of a “gun.” Another for chewing a pop tart into the shape of a “gun.”
Those are not guns. The left has a hard time distinguishing reality from a depiction of reality.
I think this was a huge over-reaction by the school.
But the basic problem is that society no longer trusts people to make sensible choices. We second guess everything anyone does.
Consider a HS student who is considered “odd”. One day he comes and shoots up the school. Afterwards, everyone says “there were signs”, and “it’s not a surprise”. And everyone goes ballistic because this should have been stropped before it happened.
So schools initiate policies. Any sign. Any sign at all. Someone saying “I shoot you”. Someone pretending to have a gun. No matter what — the school has to jump into action and “take steps”. If a school employee fails to do so, they lose their job and their pension. The lawyers are out in full force.
And THAT is how a 6-year-old with Down Syndrome get persecuted for pointing her finger.
We don’t trust people to make good decisions and so we force people to make stupid decisions.
Well I get that. You can see how this sort of thing escalates out of control and pretty soon you've given Trump something else to tweet about because his minders won't take his iPhone away from him.
Teachers are rapidly becoming the incompetent, snowflake, low IQ demographic of the nation. Seriously stupid.
Morons running the schools. Humorless, dumb as posts morons
It appears the decision to call the police was made by the principal, not the teacher. Policy. Policy above all.
Threat management assessment (or is it threat assessment management?) and then hand off ultimate responsibility to police or CPS and usually both. It’s all in the manual which is to be found in every administrator’s pants, right between the back pockets.
Fruit of the ‘zero tolerance’ mindset.
Pathetic. Washington's winter headquarters. A place where many suffered horribly in the struggles to achieve freedom and personal liberty.
Now the home of petty tyrants.
“......The lawyers are out in full force ......”
The consequences of at least 60 years graduating lawyers far in excess of what the economy actually needs !
When I was a college senior I ran out of fingers & toes counting the number of times I heard someone say when asked the question what are you going to do, ‘Dunno! ... I guess go to law school!”. When mine were in college they head the same thing.
Everybody run! The homecoming queen has got a gun!
