Did they see that Kid with Downs on the Oscars trying to announce the Winner?
It was the only moment that made me feel like these Hollyweird People were faced with REALITY.
Of course, every one of them in that Room would have Aborted their own Kid if he had Downs, but that’s a different topic for a different Thread.
This may be an overreaction and political correctness gone wild but I also have to wonder if there isnt more to the story, if perhaps this kid had a prior history of behavioral problems. Not saying there was, but just wondering.
My nice is a learning support assistant in an elementary school. She is also the mother of a child with special needs (ADHD and COD and recently diagnosed as Bi-Polar) who goes to a different school in the same district, so she definitely sees the issue from both sides.
A large part of her job is sitting next to a special needs child, often one with autism and attempting to keep the child focused, giving the child special attention so the teacher doesnt have to take up all of his or her time to the detriment of other students, and often just trying to keep the kid under control so he or she doesnt disrupt the classroom and removes the child when he or she does.
While this child isnt one of her students, at her school there is a girl with Downs Syndrome, who may also have other concurrent psychological diagnoses, a 4th grader who has among other things; unprovoked, pushed a student down a flight of stairs resulting in the child having been pushed breaking her leg, attacked more than one teacher by hitting, kicking and in at least one case biting a teacher so severely that it required stitches. This child is also disruptive in class and curses, acts out in a provocative if not an overtly sexual manner and verbally and physically threatens both teachers and students on a regular basis including making threatening gestures and acts of self-harm like hair pulling and attempting to cut herself.
After the incident where she pushed another child down a flight of stairs, because there was an injury and the EMTs were called, the police also came. No criminal charges were filed but the student was indefinitely expelled with the recommendation of the school districts psychologist and teachers and an outside expert, that the child, was not suitable for mainstreaming, should be placed in a special needs school where she could be given the type of individualized care and instruction she needed that may help her learn to control her behaviors and actually help her learn some life skills and under the supervision of specially and highly trained staff so that she wouldnt be a risk to harm herself or others.
This childs mother, who is some sort of special needs advocate and blogger, however sued the school system to keep her child in a regular school.
Her mother won the case and insisted that her daughter be treated just like any other student, but not of course when it comes to her childs behavior. Not only did this childs mother insist she be in regular classes and not in any special ed classes, but also on sports teams and things like the school choir.
FWIW, I went to my nieces district wide music program and saw this Downs Syndrome kid performing in the choir. She was wildly swaying back and forth, nearly pushing other kids next to her over, and not singing at all but loudly shouting out random words and several times tried to walk off the stage necessitating one of her learning support assistants to retrieve her. I felt so bad for all the kids who had rehearsed and practiced so hard only to have their performance ruined.
This child was in the 4th grade and couldnt spell her own name, couldnt identify colors or letters live alone read or do any math beyond counting to five, but was promoted year after year at her mothers insistence and in part because the school, because they couldnt expel her or face the costs of more lawsuits, thought it better to keep promoting her in order to eventually get her out.
We tend to think of Downs Syndrome kids and adults as lovable teddy bears, and in many cases they are, but not in all cases.

Good God! What the hell is wrong with these people?
This is the most pathetic thing politically correct liberals could possibly do. This poor kid, at 6 years old and suffering with downs syndrome, does not understand what she was doing was wrong. Whoever made the decision to call the police should be fired. They should not be associated with the education of young children in any way. They are of questionable IQ.
The teacher, the principal and the school board need to be fired. Idiots should not be teaching children, supervising those who teach children or making the rules for schools.
