Democrats in Virginias House of Delegates passed legislation Tuesday to ban suppressors, high capacity magazines, and assault weapons.
The bill, HB 961, now moves to the Virginia Senate.
HB 961 originally banned certain commonly owned firearms and suppressors without exception, The NRA-ILA reports that the bill amended to secure passage. The result is that a grandfather clause was added to allow Virginians to keep their AR-15s, AK-47s, and similar rifles if they already own them.
The same will apply to suppressors. However, the NRA-ILA notes that confiscation is undoubtedly still the end goal.
There is no grandfather clause for magazines, which means Virginians owning magazines holding 12 rounds or more will have to destroy or surrender those magazines, should HB 961 pass the Senate and be signed into law.
The NRA released a statement on the House passage of HB 961:
HB961 will turn law-abiding Virginians into criminals overnight. Under this bill, anyone who owns a standard capacity magazine must submit to mandatory confiscation or face one year in jail for each magazine they own. No law-abiding Virginian will be able to buy an AR-15 Americas most popular all-purpose sporting rifle. After receiving money from Michael Bloomberg, House leaders have their hands out for more and clearly have no regard for the will of their constituents.

Supreme Court?
If a civil war begins, Virginia is probably going to be the initial flash point. At least local LEO’s have said they won’t enforce the laws if passed, so that’s a plus.
#ResistVirginia
There will be no civil war. Gun owners in VA will either abide by the laws or move to another state. Either way, VA will be fully surrendered to the DEMs.
The unSAFE Act in NY required the removal of High Cap mags and registration of “Assault” ...nobody complied. There are millions of them still here and more coming in every day.
Fools, all of them.
They fail to realize that Illegal is not synonymous with unavailable.
The Virginia leadership seems intent on causing open opposition at about every level.
They need to get this before the SCOTUS ASAP, cut these idiots off a the pass.
Every member of the General Assembly that voted for this gun control/confiscation bill should be required to personally go and collect the guns, mags and suppressors that they have now voted to make illegal.
VA is going to go hard red when this is over in 2020.
They should be mustered out of office over this.
The just broke an oath to be faithful to the U. S. Constitution.
This is how the Nazis gained power in the 1930s. Those states in the union must guarantee a constitutional state complete with adherence to the Constitution. All of the amendments or face revolt.
Hope youre right.
‘Rebuild kits’ get delivered right to my local PO.
These clowns (and some here) should attend USPSA, IDPA or IPSC matches... or even just watch a YouTube video on the topic to get a clue.
Sling shot = assault weapon.
How bad in VA ?
Is it just getting as bad as MD already is ?
Or worse than MD in any regard ?
#IWillNotComply
I live in Virginia and don’t see it. Wish it weren’t true but just too many people from third world countries and adjacent communist s-holes MD, DC moved in and ruined it as they do everything.
I moved from NY, should have kept going. Went back to visit family some weeks ago and stayed in Manhattan. Homeless people are everywhere. All you smell walking around is body odor and weed. We have to somehow stop these people or eventually the whole county will become this hellscape.
Surrender is the nightmare case.
Two good things could happen. In November patriots could rally and squeak out victory by flipping the state House and Senate back to red.
Better, President Trump should cut about 50,000 federal jobs who occupants live in northern Virginia. This would not harm government productivity; removing these lard bricks would increase government productivity.
Such cuts would also help straighten out the voting patterns in Virginia.
