Ricky Gervais is warning celebrities against political speeches after a number of them spoke out at the Oscars over the weekend, saying that the comments to "everyday, hard working people" at Hollywood awards shows usually backfire.
"I have nothing against the most famous people in the world using their privileged, global platform to tell the world what they believe," the comedian and five-time Golden Globes host tweeted Monday, a day after the 92nd annual Academy Awards.
"I even agree with most of it," Gervais said to his more than 14 million followers. "I just tried to warn them that when they lecture everyday, hard working people, it has the opposite effect."

In an apparently since-deleted tweet, Gervais said of Phoenix's Oscars speech, "I think he's great."
"And most of his stuff was actually humanitarian. But I know for a fact that lots of people hate overtly partly political lectures from celebrities and dig their heels in. Thats all," Gervais reportedly said.

Ricky’s just trying to walk back things a little without it showing too much. Sorry Ricky, the progs won’t let you get away with just being a little bit apostate. You are all in whether you like it or not.
Ricky Gervais tweeted this last night:
“I cant wait to hear all your inspirational speeches about equality, and its great that the 3 hours youre here tonight is the only time your badly paid migrant house staff will get some time off to sleep this week.”
Right. Don't skimp on your personal security staff.
Curious where he stands 5 years from now politically and spiritually.
Average folks love it when wealthy celebrities (who own multiple homes and fly in private planes all over the world) lecture them on “climate”—or maybe not... ;-)
What a confused person. On the one hand he seems to understand how people of high privilege alienate the rest of us with their hypocritical lectures. Then, on the other hand, he still states that “I agree with all of it”. WTF?
You’re almost there Ricky. You still need some brainwashing de-programming. It’s a leap, but you can do it, as others have. Our side faces the same cognitive dissonance regarding NFL football.
