Former New York City Mayorand potential 2020 Democratic presidential candidateMichael Bloomberg called efforts to legalize marijuana "perhaps the stupidest thing anybody has ever done."
Speaking at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, on Tuesday, Bloomberg said on the subject, according to WBNG-TV:
"We have a different kind of problem in America, for example. Last year, in 2017, 72,000 Americans [overdosed] on drugs. In 2018, more people than that are OD-ing on drugs, have OD'd on drugs. And today, incidentally, we are trying to legalize another addictive narcotic, which is perhaps the stupidest thing anybody has ever done. We've got to fight that, and that's another thing that Bloomberg Philanthropies will work on it in public health."

In an ideal world (if I had my way), marijuana would be classified as a garden vegetable and its commercial production prohibited. Same for tobacco. You can grow it, smoke it, chew it all you want, but not find it anywhere in a retail business.
I see it this way... anything that comes up out of the ground is God given.
Grain alcohol is different, it requires a distillation and does not grow up from the ground, beer and wine has also been a part of food and beverage culinary practices for centuries.
Ringing in ears? Why did you bring that up? (Oh and I dont smoke weed nor do I drink )
Prohibition was constitutional, an amendment passed by both houses of Congress and ratified by state legislatures.
Marijuana legalization is nothing like that... Marijuana should have been decriminalized so it is nothing more than a garden vegetable and the commercial use prohibited.
But, since the stupid know it all potheads chose to legalize weed, they have more lawyers, more jails, more taxes, more government, and more idiots blowing up their houses because they use butane to cook dabs in their kitchen.
An interesting aside: Remember back when the government(EPA) did the whole ASBESTOS IN SCHOOLS thing, because it was so dangerous and could hurt the kids ? Most of the time the asbestos was in pipe wrapping or ceilings of a 30ft high gymnasium, so the asbestos getting released into the air was minimal.
Automobiles then had asbestos in the brake linings on every vehicle. Two pads for each wheel. Millions and millions of vehicles driving around grinding the asbestos into a very fine particulate and shooting it right out into the air. Because it is so finely ground, it floats in the air and is easily breathed into your lungs.
So , why isn't everyone dead?
I asked the head of the Asbestos in Schools for Region 7 of the EPA why they were ignoring the brakepad issue and concentrating on schools.
The answer was that it would cost the auto industry too much to quit using the asbestos at the time.
Asbestos is not the danger they would have you believe.
More government than criminalization? Obvious nonsense - 'no way nohiw' is self-evidently more government than 'only under certain conditions.'
More laws? Government intrusion is not properly measured by merely counting statutes (or the words therein).
More taxes? Since it's not a conservative position to say that everything that is taxed should be banned instead, the relevance of your observation is far from clear.
Sounds like he was worthless first, and just smokes the pot so he can be happy sitting around doing nothing.
Odd my step father and a very good friend both died from mesothelioma, both US Navy vets. Seem theres a large legal trust account set up by the courts for people exposed to asbestos guess Ill go with that.
You wrote a book on this subject? Interesting and good for you. Seriously. Is this book based on your work in a medical field or personal experience?
I have a lifetime of exposure (just as everyone here in one way or another) and have Formed my opinions based on this. Recreational use of marijuana is not any more of an issue than alcohol. I use neither alcohol nor marijuana .
Marijuana legalization is nothing like that
Marijuana criminalization at the federal level is also nothing like that. Nothing in the language of the Constitution authorizes the federal government to meddle in within-state marijuana policy.
Stop repeating yourself. Your opinions may be convincing to you. But they are not to me.
Nonsense. I am a certified first responder, I teach 40 hour HAZWOPER certification classes, asbestos is a carcinogen, and it will kill you.
Marijuana should have been decriminalized so it is nothing more than a garden vegetable and the commercial use prohibited.

Still quoting this Tobacco Nazi site, I see:
"Smart Approaches to Marijuana: PREVENTING ANOTHER BIG TOBACCO" [emphasis added]
Omg you joined FR a week ago and are starting off acting like this?
You can return to social media where being rude like this is common place.

No counterarguments to my rebuttals?

So far so good ...
and the commercial use prohibited.
Why? Should the commercial use of other garden vegetables be prohibited?
He got zapped. Thank goodness he joined a week ago and is trolling.
And the alcohol-legal-marijuana-illegal rules are a**-backward - alcohol is more addictive and more toxic.
Huh?
