It is very simple to call for massive changes when you have no idea how those changes will affect you, or when you believe they wont.
That lesson was learned by a group of college students at the University of Oxford's St. John's College who are occupying the institution in protest over the so-called climate crisis when they sent a letter to one of the schools professors.
The professor, Andrew Parker, who also is involved in university finances, received the letter in which the students requested a meeting.
Among their demands was that the school divest from its investments in fossil fuels, to which Parker had a fantastic response.
I am not able to arrange any divestment at short notice," he said in the letter to the students, The Times of London reported Friday.
"But I can arrange for the gas central heating in college to be switched off with immediate effect, Parker said. "Please let me know if you support this proposal."
Marvelous!

That's divesting from fossil fuels.
Id like to see climate change activists do without. I wonder if anyone took the professor up on his offer.
GK Chesterton has a character Innocent Smith in Manalive who listening to an Oxford Don complaining about life as meaningless takes out a gun & offers to shoot him.
Students should not have gas engine cars.
Time to revive the old bumper sticker from Texas - “Let them freeze in the Dark”
...crickets...
HAHAHAHA!
Let the "divestment" begin!
.
A simple solution to student demonstrations is to expel the students from the university
Lol
Indeed. He should have argued - we are directly reducing oil demand immediately! Far more immediate and calculable on oil consumption, than the vague gesture of selling a western oil-company stock at some point in the future!
Make the enemy live up to his own book of rules.
SOunded too good to be true. But he is a real person:

Biography
I work in the University Laboratory of Physiology, which is one of the five pre-clinical departments within the University’s Medical School. I am involved in the pre-clinical teaching of medical students, as well as teaching for undergraduate science degrees in Physiological Sciences and the physiology parts of the Psychology and Philosophy (PP) degree. The University also has an active graduate course in Neuroscience, which is a one-year taught M.Sc. degree with research projects.
I have been the Principal Bursar at St John’s College since October 2009. The Principal Bursar holds the responsibility for the assets of the College, including its buildings and their contents, the investment portfolio that supports the Colleges teaching and research activities, as well as HR responsibility for non-academic staff.
He should have cut off the heat and lights and power from the dorms.
That’s divesting from fossil fuels.
Let’s get real. Turn the thermostat down far enough to not allow water pipes to freeze. If the water pipes froze it would be far more costly to repair than to save on fossil fuel usage. You can still cut power to individual rooms and lock up the thermostats so they cannot be touched. There are other ways to prove the point without going to the extreme and getting the same results. Temperatures in the dorm at 55 degrees farenheit, most thermostats do not go below this setting, is still an uncomfortable temperature for most people and would not make the pipes freeze.
Do Leftists realize how much they are harming the planet by turning on the heat in the Winter?
Poor Mother Nature, Goddess of Guia doesn’t even get a chance to regulate the temperature down, which is so desperately needed after these record (hottest day in 10,000 years) days in the Summer.
Wink...
This spoiled, participatiuon-trophy, brat has no clue what the externalities are from what she proposes. Sorta like AOC and she share the same boat...lotsa mouth, no brains.
Soon we will hear about the firing of the prof when students start complaining that they don’t feel safe with him on campus.
The waaaambulances are standing by to rescue those poor students if that happens.
