Like most of his Orthodox friends, Richard Goldberg was raised a Democrat.
But by 2000, Goldberg had affixed a Republican congressional campaign bumper sticker to the maroon Lincoln Town Car he drove to his Orthodox Jewish high school in Chicago. Spurred by concerns about President Bill Clintons Israeli-Arab peace process, disgust with the Monica Lewinsky scandal and a desire to emulate his older brother, Goldberg had decided to become a Republican.
Though he was not yet old enough to vote, Goldberg knew he was unusual. He remembers walking into Chicagos largest Judaica store, Rosenblums, to see stacks of yarmulkes adorned with the Democratic presidential campaign logo including the name of Joe Lieberman, the Orthodox Jewish senator who had been selected as Al Gores running mate.
The owner of the bookstore was pushing me to get a Gore-Lieberman yarmulke, Goldberg told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency. I said, These are very nice. Do you have them in Bush-Cheney? He didnt even know how to respond.
Twenty years later, Rosenblums says it isnt selling any campaign yarmulkes due to a policy of not offering political merchandise of any kind. But elsewhere, kippahs emblazoned with logos supporting President Donald Trump, a Republican, are readily available. The Orthodox world has caught up with Goldberg, who worked for years as a GOP political operative.
Ive never seen anything like it as far as support in the Orthodox community, Goldberg said about Trump. Regarding the presidents policies toward Israel, Goldberg said, If your worldview is such that these things are unbelievable accomplishments and things that youve waited your whole life to see happen, this president is a dream come true.
Multiple surveys reflect Goldbergs experience. The vast majority of American Jews vote for Democrats, but a slim majority of Orthodox Jews voted for Trump...

There is also the Republican position that education is the parent’s choice and that they are against forcing you to hide your religion.
Now there’s the problem. Hawaii was one of the states Hillary carried, where old New Yorkers, I’d presume, winter. I wonder how they’d like the Green New Deal. Will they be hang gliding or boarding schooners to get back to the mainland? I’d guess the latter, but who knows.
Republican ideas on education are liable to change the entire political makeup of the country. It’s a magnet to blacks, Hispanics and other minorities, and probably the Orthodox Jewish community as well, which has lots of reasons to go red, and already has to a great degree, not least of which reasons is education. The Dem base could get mighty sparse.
Don’t be too shocked, in 1932, a good portion of the Jews voted for Hitler.
This is quite a large lie, oft repeated.
The National Socialists of Germany were openly anti Semitic and had virtually no Jewish support. This is a well known fact.
What is not known is why people like you keep repeating this lie. So why do you lie? Whats your agenda?
As someone from a family that's been Republican since the Civil War, it breaks my heart that Orthodox Jews would have ever been Democrats. But you must understand, "minority groups" are insulated from the moral nihilism the libs pound the rest of us with. The idea is that the minority groups don't have to be pro-gay because just being a minority ticks off The Man quite enough.
People who claim to hate people who believe in Adam and Eve, oppose homosexuality, etc., should hate all who believe those things, not just use them as an excuse to pick on one group (rednecks).
It’s historical. When you get to the Lower East Side after Ellis Island, there’s a ward heeler from Chief Tamany waiting to make you welcome, with a job, first week’s groceries, taking you to the various offices you need to see, and putting you on the fast track to citizenship. If Tamany Hall does that much for you, how can you refuse to vote Democrat a few times on election day. After Tamany Hall went down, the next machine hired the same ward heeler for new arrivals to Brooklyn, Washington Heights, the Bronx, etc. So if everyone’s voting Democrat and extolling the kind deeds that the Democrats do, and nobody is a Republican, you have no perspective. And national politics mean absolutely nothing to an inner city dweller. Then FDR comes along, and the New Deal makes ward heelers obsolete. Now the DNC is the ward heeler, getting everyone through the Depression.
Times have changed. Everyone thought the Orthodox were just temporary, ‘til they got a taste of the good life in America. They stuck together, and in time got wise to the con job. Now we vote Republican.
LOL!
It is not just for religious reasons that people are pulling their kids out of public schools but for moral reasons. The public school teachers will side with child rapists who happen to be teachers against their victims and grooming is so common that it is now considered part of the curriculum.
Those who kick and cry about how the bad parents will not see to their child's education are the same people who kick and cry about those same children being the reason public schools are not able to teach.
They need to pick a side and stick with it. :)
In my state if you have foster children you are obliged to send them to public school unless you get a waver which is not easy to obtain. One public union looks after another.
not just winter....for years and years vast numbers of east & west coast Liberals , many of whom are also Jewish, have migrated and totally ensconced here. They have strongly influenced the political scenery. ( Sen. Brian Schatz). They have fired up , or replaced , any political leanings that young ‘locals’ have and almost competely supplanted the former Japanese ancestry ‘old boy’ Democrat machine. They are the gateway for all the nasty mainland far Left socialist radicals and Trump hatred . Some bring their Ivy League educated snottiness and elitism . Some are just old hippies and former anti-Vietnam War protestor types, grown old. Who have found a new cause as they settle into their senility years .My observations are based on 50 years kik f residency and accuate political participation 15 yrs or so. I am a local Tea Party founder & organizer. As such I have been highly aware of who my opposition has been composed of . Take a guess. No exaggeration whatsoever...
PS: We have a local Chabad node. I should approach them and sus out where their sentiments lie.Ifit is as you suggest , they may be tremendous allies in the upcoming roadside big-wave rallies for Trump , which I will once again be organizing and leading. I’d love to see’ trait tsit on the rally line !
Forward to the foe!
Whatever faith you profess to hold, you poison with antisemitism. All antisemites offend, evil will come upon them.
Dude. You have read the Old Testament?
“What have you learned from the Holocaust...”
I’ve learned that some people don’t learn.
