The U.S. military is now treating 64 troops for traumatic brain injury symptoms following Iran's ballistic missile attack on Al Asad Air Base in Iraq earlier this month, defense officials said Thursday.
"The Department of Defense remains committed to providing the American people timely and accurate information about the care and treatment of our service members," said Army Lt. Col. Thomas Campbell, a Pentagon spokesperson.
CNN was first to report the increase. The latest news marks the fourth time the Defense Department has amended its statement regarding the injuries. Of the 64, 39 service members have returned to duty, officials said.

Our Drama Queen media at work again.
So everytime a bomb detonates all the soldiers nearby who are otherwise unharmed are pulled from the lines? You’ll have no army quite rapidly.
I'm sure they were...like vultures
So this is kind of like Footballs CTE, but for the military? Some people have soft brains... Simple solution... Determine who they are a stop them from playing sports and joining the military.
Maybe they realized that these men who had their bell rung repeatedly in pugil stick training or bar fights just might be able to survive and recover that nasty shock wave from an explosive. The artillery simulator explosives they set off in the live fire obstacle course during basic would have rendered the Army devoid of grunts to send out if that was the case.
Maybe they will explain the fast return to duty as the explosives may have been the softer gentler type like used in the Korea/Vietnam conflicts so the concussions weren't severe.
Not to minimize any potential injuries, but many of our soldiers, marines, etc. are coached to claim significant injuries in case there may potentially be some health-related developments later. I personally know a few marines that submitted disability claims prior to leaving active duty, just in case they might have future issues. One was approved as 70% disabled, even though this individual is perfectly healthy and normal.
So reports of TBIs might, in actuality, be less significant than they’re being portrayed as.
And for those that truly are suffering from significant injuries, I wish a speedy and full recovery.
What it looks like is that the army has come up with some magic number. That if an explosion happens within a hundred yards of you it’s automatically assumed that you have traumatic brain injury. That doesn’t pass the straight-face test that all of the injuries were TBI, and nobody had any other injuries
I am grateful that the military is taking this seriously, and is fully checking out everybody who was close enough to the blast to suffer from possible compression and shock injuries. The brain is sensitive, and there is no harm in checking things out.
FOr a long time, this TBI stuff was a stigma for soldiers. The fictional show “Seal Team” dealt with this as one of the seal team members is injured in a blast, and then meets someone who had TBI but had never reported it because it could sideline him from duty, and was seen as “weakness”.
Meanwhile, our media seems very pleased that our soldiers were injured.
On the other hand, a lot of soldiers are slow to report it, figuring it’s not that bad and just part of being there and being a soldier in a combat theater. We had to force any number of guys to at least go get checked out, and some of them WERE banged up.

Iraq 2007-2008
Strange all the coverage of this (CNN reported it first) its almost as if they want to make it Trump’s fault.
I can hear it now...”He said there were no major injuries, He lied” Impeach!
Agreed. Just look at the ‘patriots’ on this thread, with their GEDs in brain trauma.
Or a lot of our soldiers see this as an easy Purple Heart. I’ve seen real TBI and I seriously doubt that all of those folks were all that injured.
Thanks for that mention. I wasn’t sure if the 64 was a valid number for people still under care.
Glad it’s not.
Wishing the others a full recovery soon.

Did they ever take Obama to take for calling the Ft Hood massacre workplace violen and evidence of islamophobia?
Did they ever take Obama for denying the Beghazi attack was a coordinated terrorist attack and had zero zip nada connection to a youtube video about mohamhead?
Thank you. TBI is deadly serious and the earlier it is diagnosed and treated the better. I have a SIL who has spent a couple of years in therapy after a fall because the ER didnt think a fall on ice was worthy of further diagnosis and immediate treatment which could have cut down extent of the resulting disability and consequent the recovery time very substantially.
When these guys were evacuated for evaluation there was no impending operation that was compromised.
Was it CNN or MSN that broadcast Iranian propaganda claiming 30 dead?
