Thank you both, sorry I missed it upthread.
People who are contaminated touch things.
Then you come along behind them and touch what they have touched.
Then you subconsciously touch your mouth, your nose, your eyes, or your food.
Now you have become contaminated.
If your life involves primary or secondary contact with other people,
you should wash your hands frequently to wash away the contamination.
The more often you are in contact with other people,
the more often you should wash your hands.
Simply scrubbing your hands together under running water will remove 90%.
Using hot water might give you a couple more %.
Using soap might give you a couple more %.
Using antibacterial soap might give you a couple more %.
...but just the very simple mechanical action
of scrubbing your hands together under running water will remove 90%.
This is true now and always under every condition with every virus.
If you don’t get out much, then it doesn’t matter much.
A retired person sitting at home has much less risk
than someone who is a flight attendant or a doctor or a nurse.
Death rate seems to be hovering around 2% for a few days now ... one assumes 1 in 50 people on average is already weakened due either to age or other conditions. In other words, so far I’m not that afraid of getting it. Not that I want it. But as has been pointed out often, it ain’t yet the flu. We’ll see how it spreads.
You'd think it'd be easier to wade thru all the st00pit on FR threads after being here awhile, but no. It's painful just to show up sometimes.
I feel your pain. Srsly.
Not really erratic, just increasing by about 30% a day, for the past few days. If that rate holds for a couple of weeks...not good.
“Death rate seems to be hovering around 2% for a few days now ... one assumes 1 in 50 people on average is already weakened due either to age or other conditions.”
But I did read (somewhere) that 1 in 4 who do get it, wind up in Intensive Care...so still not an ordinary flu bug.
My sympathies.
There are posters who think the flu is a conspiracy and like the common cold (if it even exists) and china is just using this as an excuse to establish centralized control. Or something. To hide the fact that their economy is in the doldrums. Or something. I can’t quite get the logic here. But there you have it.
Racists (/sarcasm)
Yes - I heard 20-25% have serious complications
Doubles roughly every three days, so my prediction...
#infected = 5794(2.1^x/3)
1/30: 12,167
1/31: 15,581
1/32: 19,953
1/33: 25,552
That’s great, but when is January 33?
It’s right after January 32.
ROFLCOPTER.
I deserved that.
The death rate is according to the Chinese government.
Very useful and sensible post.
Think of all the things you touch every day without thinking about it - door handles/knobs; a pen or pencil handed to you to sign something; elevator buttons; handrails on stairs, escalator, or bus; the receipt handed to you in a store when you purchase something, or the bar of the shopping cart you used in that same store.
It goes on and on ad infinitum.
Makes good sense to wash our hands - a LOT. We are probably more likely to contract something by transferring it from hands to face, than by catching it through the air from a cough or sneeze.
:)
It’s a couple of weeks after the tenth of never.
The outcome of the disease is that you either die or you recover.
The statistics I saw said 133 dead, 126 recovered. It looks like about a 50% mortality rate to me. Of the 7000 that now are infected, 3500 are gunna die.
This whole thing is so overblown.
Maybe way more deaths as reports state that China is burning dead bodies without identifying them or adding to count. I believe this big time.
