"Andreas Zapf, president of Bavarias office for health and food safety, said on Tuesday the person infected was 33 years old and had come into contact with a Chinese lady on Jan 21."

Interesting that the first confirmed case in Europe is in Germany...
This proves it! We’re all gonna die!
This should trigger the WHO’s protocol to raise the threat level to Phase 6, which indicates a global pandemic is underway.

Per above, first cases in France. If not from human transmission, how did these patients get it? French kissing bats?
Can this Chinese Flu be transmitted through the internet? If so we are doomed
I believe there has been a case in Calcutta. I would imagine that this could spread like wildfire in a place like India — just like China. Lots and lots of crowded places.
There is one little side note on this meeting of the German and the Chinese lady. She (as of today, the 28th), has yet to show signs of the virus. It’s roughly seven days since they met (adding this factor into the story). The experts say you need 14 days for this to pop up.
So I’m having doubts over this story, and the Chinese lady. There had to be someone around ten days prior to this meeting where this guy bumped into the sick party.
Most of their doctors are over here.
I would like a definition of came into contact.

14 days is now being listed as the normal extreme. There are reports coming from China indicating that a victim becomes infectious in as little as 1-2 days after initial infection.
You mean Dr Patel?
(Any one of them)
Yeah, I know. I’m just having fun with it. And yes, I think it’s funny. Not the disease. There is nothing funny about that. Rather, the “if it bleeds, it leads” press going into hysterics every tiime something like this happens.
And yeah, I know. This time it’s different.
It always is. ;)
14 days is the outer limit. IIRC, the normal range is somewhere between 5 and 7; days.
Bat soup and a side of kraut. Washed down with a Heineken. Yummy!

~~~
But how long after initial infection before they start showing symptoms?
That is the key to all this.
Let’s say you catch it on day 0
You become infection (contageous) on day 2
but you become symptomatic on day 6
That means you were wandering around, symptom free, for 4 days spreading the infection.
Dude, youre already dead and dreaming this...
It hitting India scares me. You have people living in slums blocks from high rise luxury condos (LA on steroids) People who think the polluted Ganges is sacred and will heal them. Just imagine people with an already deadly disease bathing in a toxic soup.
