This is interesting. Tsagaan Tsar (Mongolian New Year) isn't until Feb. 23 when they take a full week off. To my knowledge, no cases have been reported there but they do a lot of trade with China.

Just curious (and displaying my ignorance), but is there any temperature that the coronavirus is ineffective? I know it's hit -40 in Mongolia already this Winter and hovered in the -20s for some time. Or does the weather have zero effect on the virus?

They have cases on their border, and 4 within the country. ZERO ability to cope with it.
It is a bullet aimed right at them.

I work for a private school that brings students here for 3 week cultural exchange programs.
I had never taught Mongolian students before, but I just finished. They are returning to Mongolia tonight after spending the entire day at Disneyland.
These students spoke nearly perfect English. Unlike Chine, they have full access to Netflix, HBO, internet, etc. They hate the Chinese and have relied on Russia to keep their independence.
May be I had the cream of the crop, but these were very sophisticated, wonderful, educated students. NOTHING backwards about them. AND I can confirm that classes have been cancelled until March. Tlhey were dreading their layover in Beijing.

Under Communism the nomadic lifestyle was crushed in Mongolia. Since the fall back in the early 90’s 1/3 of the population returned to being nomadic herders.

There are plenty of videos on youtube showing yurts out on the steppes with wifi access.
