This is interesting. Tsagaan Tsar (Mongolian New Year) isn't until Feb. 23 when they take a full week off. To my knowledge, no cases have been reported there but they do a lot of trade with China.

Just curious (and displaying my ignorance), but is there any temperature that the coronavirus is ineffective? I know it's hit -40 in Mongolia already this Winter and hovered in the -20s for some time. Or does the weather have zero effect on the virus?

Bring Out Your Dead

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

I think there are 5 bell weathers in the Pacific Rim: India, Taiwan, South Korea, Australia, and the Philippines.

We'll be able to get honest data, and a clearer sense of actions being taken that will indicate how screwed we are.

Can’t say I don’t blame them...lots from China travel in and thru there and vice versa.

Kind of like Virginia now saying they have cases...causes more concern for my state of Pa than if in California. Just keeping an eye on this thing is just wise.
