I work for a private school that brings students here for 3 week cultural exchange programs.
I had never taught Mongolian students before, but I just finished. They are returning to Mongolia tonight after spending the entire day at Disneyland.
These students spoke nearly perfect English. Unlike Chine, they have full access to Netflix, HBO, internet, etc. They hate the Chinese and have relied on Russia to keep their independence.
May be I had the cream of the crop, but these were very sophisticated, wonderful, educated students. NOTHING backwards about them. AND I can confirm that classes have been cancelled until March. Tlhey were dreading their layover in Beijing.
Thank you for that.

Under Communism the nomadic lifestyle was crushed in Mongolia. Since the fall back in the early 90’s 1/3 of the population returned to being nomadic herders.
There are plenty of videos on youtube showing yurts out on the steppes with wifi access.
I’ve seen some travel videos about Mongolia, looks like a cool place to visit.
I will pray for their safe return.
Thanks for sharing that. Too bad they have a layover in Beijing.
don't know if we can trust China, but we can probably trust what the countries around China are doing and we probably can trust the airline industry if it suddenly drops many flights......
“They hate the Chinese and have relied on Russia to keep their independence.”
The Mongolian dislike for China goes back to before Genghis Khan (i.e. it is the reason the Great Wall of China was built). I have always found it fascinating that the least populous country in the world (per square mile) was home to the largest land empire in world history under Genghis Khan and his successors.
