Democrats are homing in on a strategy they hope will bring new rural voters into the fold through hyperlocal economic messaging and by venturing into parts of the country they ignored in the run-up to the 2016 election.
Theres a coordinated effort among the House Democratic campaign arm, presidential candidates and liberal outside groups to address the partys rural blind spot by finding new ways to speak to white working class voters and rural black voters in key battleground states and districts in Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Iowa, Illinois and New York.
Democrats believe theyre making inroads with the white working class voters in the Rust Belt who broke late for President Trump in 2016 through an ad campaign showcasing stories from disappointed voters who are local to the region.
But depressed turnout among African Americans also contributed to Hillary Clintons 2016 loss.
Democrats say theyre renewing their commitment to this critical voting bloc through rural outreach programs they hope will expand the partys base of black voters, both in the blue wall states and in Southern states, such as South Carolina, Georgia and Mississippi, where rural black voters have not traditionally been a priority for either party.

Rural voters in 2016 didnt vote for us for a reason, there wasn't enough outreach or effort to engage and so there was a drop off, said Antjuan Seawright, a DCCC adviser who lives in rural Richland County in South Carolina, which is 46 percent black. We realize the mistakes we made in the past and were working diligently to win those voters back.

Now they believe they need the white and rural vote to win back the White House.
Can they convince the people they demonized they're now looking out for their best interests?
Can they convince enough white and rural voters the leopard has changed his spots?
They actually believe they didn’t get votes because of not enough outreach.
I really hope they seriously believe this.
there wasn’t enough outreach or effort to engage and so there was a drop off,
Wrong try again, that’s not the reason. You put up duplicitous lying witch as your candidate and now you have a pack of America hating socialists running. insufficient outreach is not the problem idiots
When Obama won both times, I believe blacks voted at a higher percentage rate than whites. It was unprecedented. There was no way they would do the same for a white.
The gay mafia that took over Colorado promised to fix the roads and schools which they did nothing. Instead the Governor signed a bill totally opposite a pro crude oil what the people voted for. Now they are putting a bunch more bicycle paths so the electric can move in cities.
Sounds like a wining strategy to me!
Let’s see.
Make them live in barns.
Raise taxes.
Outlaw cards and fuel.
Watch them go to the bathroom and have sex.
Take their guns.
Control all speech.
Now they believe they need the white and rural vote to win back the White House.
That's nothing. Democrats were lynching blacks and blowing up their churches for over a 100 years, and they still go back to them.
Baby killing, gun grabbing, anti Capitalist economics, crazy climate policies to control everything in ones life IS NOT AN OUTREACH STRATEGY!!!
These commies are idiots!!!!! DANGEROUS IDIOTS!!!!!!
KAG!!!!!
Go PDJT !!!!!!!
I live in a rural area and any communist politician that sets foot on this posted private property is in for a verrrrry rude “awaking”.

My local, perennial, progressive candidate knows not to step foot on my rural (and legally posted) property. She’s not the brightest bulb, but she’s learned that much.
Its called Blexit not depressed turnout and more pain is coming for Dems in 2020.
The bamboozle is coming to an end...
.........lol.......nice slapdown........
Virginians hear this 5:5
So do we, jammed signals or no
Dems are always targeting and recruiting new groups of voters, but GOP doesn’t seem to have that same level of initiative.
It is clear from the Presidential debates and what Virginia is doing that the Democrats what to take firearms away from rural voters. That won't play well.
The Dem's also want to make people give up their cars as part of the Green revolution, to say nothing about trucks. That won't play well in rural areas.
I think that Trump will be re-elected in a landslide.
They will not leave us alone.
Of course their biggest losses were with blue collar voters. They voted for Trump because he acted like he really cared about them. For the most part there have been three presidents who have carried the blue collar vote and that is Reagan, Clinton and Trump. They all had two things in common, they acted like they cared about their problems and they asked them to vote for them.
Asking. It works.
Preaching. It might.
Shaming. It don't.
