I circle around UCLAs Moore Hall for the third time. Security officers block each entrance. Police in riot gear patrol the streets. Metal fences wall off the building from protesters, and barricades separate protesters on the left from those on the right. Everyone prepares for Donald Trump Jr.s arrival to promote his new book, Triggered: How the Left Thrives on Hate and Wants to Silence Us.
As a trauma therapist who works with women and refugees and who practices on Canadas west coast I admit that I live in a progressive bubble. Ive never met a Trump supporter in the flesh and the psychiatrist in me is curious: What puzzle pieces of life experience could come together to produce a world-view so opposite to mine? I hope to chat with a Trump voter to try to understand.
But then I see my first MAGA hat.
My mind floods with images of climate activist Greta Thunberg crying How dare you? and white men marching in straight-pride parades, wielding swastikas, guns and Confederate flags. I envision immigrant children warehoused in cages and online comments that scream, Go back to where you came from.
I tense up and glare at the man in MAGA. I want him to feel unwelcome, unsafe and, mostly, to feel shame.
Im at UCLA to attend a psychotherapy course to learn about these kind of moments when big emotions short circuit our minds higher functions so we cant think or behave skillfully. The professor playfully called it boom time. In other words, were triggered.

I read it for you, sadly. Its like reading the thoughts of my miserable drunk of a wife number 2. This old cow seems to be a borderline violent psychopath. Naturally the broad works in the mental health field.
And one of the specific reasons that I wear my MAGA hat every chance I get so that it may "trigger" some dumb ass liberal exactly like you.
Stupid idiot.
Thats really pathetic, such a sheltered idiot. I can say with certainty that Ive never met a single person who hasnt met a Trump supporter.
Note to self. Wear MAGA hat everywhere everyday.
.........................................
I have 3 styles of KAG Trump 2020 hats, and I wear one of them everyday in restaurants, malls, and on the streets. And almost everyday I have one or more people comment that they like my hat. No one has so far has said anything derogatory. Moreover, I’m beginning to see an increasing number of others wearing their Trump hats. In my view, wearing Trump hats and other apparel provides encouragement to his more timid supporters.
I think she should take up parapsychology, cause she has a demon... lol
I actually read the article...I know- shocking! And if you can get past her being triggered in the first paragraph, she actually comes to a place where she tries to understand the other side and realize we are not going to get anywhere if people keep getting triggered and won’t be open to an actual discussion and open to another person’s opinion.
Needed to BE said... :^)
I can’t hep’s m’self....
Now Joanna, go buy yourself s vibrator with Hillary Rotten Criminals picture on it.

LMAO! Funniest line on FR today.
A “trauma therapist” who is in dire need of deep psychoanalysis. lol
Lord help the poor fool who pays this nitwit to help them with trauma.
She probably has met many Trump supporters but they were not willing to deal with her response.
What a psychotherapist who is not able to listen.
Ive never met a psychiatrist who didnt need more help than they were capable of giving.

When I was in college in the early 1960s we learned that the highest rate of suicide among the professions was in the fields of mental health.
Thank you for your sacrifice. I figured as much about Ms. Cheeky....errrr....Cheek.
She is someone who studies this irrational reaction and didnt see the insane irony in here BS? There is no hope with these wackos.
So if the syndrome that plagues liberals over MAGA hats is based on some Traumatic experience, Id like to know what her trauma was that warrants her clinical condition. She left that out of her self analysis bs article.
What are the qualifications for that kind of gig -- and who pays her salary?
Instead I slip into a false refuge of certainty. I know this guy hes a fascist, racist, misogynistic, homophobe.
She acknowledges her "false refuge of certainty, and that the man is a fellow human.
But implied is that "fear, grief, powerlessness and shame" is what drove this man into the Trumpian embrace, and stated without question is that the MAGA hat is "an armor of anger."
"What builds teams is a feeling of safety." How safe do any academic peers or students in another political camp feel around our author? Or does the question never arise?
Tetched in the head. It is harpies like her that make me want to apologize for being female.
See my tag line.

She’s not a psychoanalyst. She’s only half a psycho-analyst!
