Legislation pre-filed in New York by State Senator James Sanders (D-10th Senate District) will require anyone wishing to purchase a firearm to first pass a mental health evaluation.
Senate Bill 7065 has been referred to the New York Senate Consumer Protection Committee where it awaits a hearing.Current New York law requires the use of a licensed firearms dealer and passage of a federal background (NICS) check to transfer any firearm.
SB 7065 would require the mental health check prior to initiating the background check.
The implementation of a mental health evaluation for firearm transfers constitutes unprecedented government regulation and overreach. The mental health requirement would even apply to a father giving a treasured firearm to his son or daughter.
Violators of the new law would face non-violent Class D felony charges and up to 7 years in prison. Some other non-violent Class D felonies in New York include robbery, burglary and vehicular manslaughter. If you are convicted of any felony, you lose your right to own a firearm and your right to vote.

It is a shame that downstate controls the political landscape. However, that can change and Comrade Cuomo is alienating a lot of folks.

They are both horrible and unconstitutional ‘laws’ used to deprive law abiding people of their 2a rights. Its just an extension to what they’ve already been extending.
Everything they do violates ‘shall not be infringed.’
The very fact in these mental health cases that make the news, that the local powers that be knew of these people as trouble yet did nothing when they could gave used existing laws...the real point isn’t to do anything about the people who are nuts, but to disarm regular people.

Isn’t it amazing how in every day, in every way, Mother Government tries to strip you of any or all God-Given or Constitutionally-Given RIGHT on pretty much a daily basis?

Basic mental health Assessments which are accepted in most court-ordered situations generally range in the $350 to $550 range.
This basically doubles the cost of
a purchase of a new handgun. This
will also hold the assessor
responsible if the gunowner truely
goes off the deep end. I don’t
see a lot of Dr’s willing to
perform these evaluations.
A number of states - VA, CA, NY, IL, MD etc - aren’t just ‘chipping away’ anymore. They’re swinging w/ nail-studded bats now.

So before running for public office, any person shall submit to a credit check, background check, prior employment check, and check for civil and felony filings with any courts. Tit for tat.

Folks, this land of ours is officially a lost cause!
Fear our former Constitutional Republic - it no longer exists - nearly 1/2 of the voters in the fall believe this is the proper course of action throughout the land despite all the good things TRUMP has accomplished and what our country has stood for in the past!

TRUMP has tried to trun us back around but the deep sate, the dems and the SES army within the govt has shown us the TWO TIERED JUST-US SYSTEM will not be torn down for true justice to prevail over the seditious / coup plotters, so who knows what will happen next with impeachment and the cheat ridden election in Nov the this fall!
Maybe the military will have to finally step in and do what it had planned if TRUMP hadn’t run or had lost in 2016.
