Sen. Rand Paul Says GOP Will Shaft Trump, Allow Democrat Witnesses and Block His Requests
GP ^ | January 15, 2020 | Cassandra Fairbanks

Sen. Paul explained that if there does end up being a vote for each individual witness, which could potentially be dozens, he believes that only the ones who are antagonistic to the president will get through. This means that “Hunter Biden, Joe Biden and the whistleblower may not pass a majority vote.” He said that if this is how witnesses are decided, the senate will end up with a situation like the House did — a lopsided witness list that would be mostly people hostile to the president.

When asked if he had any other specific witnesses in mind that he was looking to hear, besides Hunter Biden and the whistleblower, Sen. Paul said that “if they end up approving witnesses like Bolton, who I think are harmful, I will insist on a motion that says the president should get to call all witnesses that he or his team deem to be necessary to his defense.”

“I also think there will be a political price to pay for this, even for Republicans running in purple states, there are strong pro-Trump presences in every purple state. It may not be 50% of the vote, but it’s a third of the vote or more. My guess is that those voters will not be too happy with the Republicans who vote to allow witnesses for the Democrats, but sits there and watches as witnesses the president would like to bring get voted down. I keep telling them it isn’t a threat coming from me, it’s me looking at the politics of this and saying look — you will lose your election.”

It’s what I have been saying. No way Mitch is gonna let him hold a Trump Rally in the Senate. You can bet Mitch is salivating at the thought of having Trump “under his thumb”.

He’s right. They will win or lose elections as a result of their actions.

They do so to their own demise. The election is right around the corner.

Yes sir, Collins may lose her election if she supports Trump. She will DEFINITELY lose her election if she doesn’t.

The Kentucky GOP has managed to grow quite a pair . . . of Senators.

They remind me of the Oregon GOP team we had growing up—Hatfield (who, BTW, was gay) and Packwood (who, whatever his other vices, was not gay). If there was a “bi-partisan” vote, very often one of the two would be the GOP defector, but which one depended on the issue (Hatfield was a dove, Packwood was socially liberal but a fiscal conservative).

Long live the memory of Wayne Morse (whom Packwood defeated).

Our Senate — A committee of committees of committee members. Most apparently part of grifting operations, for their wallets. No true leaders. Few patriots. GOPe minions and dirty D’rats.

Shame on it.

If the GOP screws up this end game they may just as well all head for “Pleasure Island” as their political careers are over!

Sen. Rand Paul Says GOP Will Shaft Trump

Yep and the GAO just gave them the tool. Mitch is a POS who said a few good things to placate the base but nothing was actually done was it? No rules vote, no dismissal vote, the condemnation of the unfair house procedure a distant memory or how about Graham’s DOA declaration? BS all of it. I am more convinced the ever that Mitch is spending all his time figuring out of to remove Trump and still get re-elected.

If true, it will be the death blow to the GOP.

The Republicans are trying to play their margins game where they rely on a secure base to court and exploit a small by critical but marginal swing vote.

Not going to work this time, our system has been fundamentally changed by Trump and the old political calculus no longer applies.

They mess with President Trump and it will be all over for them.

A lot are OK with this because if Trump wins and stays in office they may go to jail for corruption

They will win or lose elections as a result of their actions.

The GOP has already shown that they don't care if they lose elections. When was the last time this party (other than Trump) has put forth a coherent campaign message? They have a party platform, although you'd never know it because they barely even open their mouths or run campaign ads.

This country is in dire straits until the GOP becomes what it must be, a party that fights (and wins) to maintain American principles. Unfortunately, other than Trump, I'm not seeing much fight in these losers.

Your thinking is outmoded, dogmatically archaic.

Mitch will work for the Republican party of which President Donald J Trump is the leader.

the two of them are a winning team

Actually, I hope they do “convict” Trump and throw him out...for what...4 months? Pence will pinch hit and Trump will win by landslide because the liberal idiots will think he can come back and stay home on voting day! Then all the cards will be on the table and the GOP-E will go to hell where they belong!
