This whole crazy separation-of-powers thing is working the way the Founders designed it.
He and the president are both members of the same party with, broadly speaking, the same policy goals. (The senator’s performance on judges is evidence of this.)
Sen. McConell cares about his own fortunes, about GOP senators’ fortunes, and like every majority leader before him, about the perogatives of the Senate. He is as corrupt as the rest of them, but he knows what he is doing.
He has also been there a long time, and knows how to count votes. He will decide based on these considerations, and his knowledge of Senate procedures and this ability to count votes, how to run the trial. The president will not be removed, and judges will continue to be confirmed, and whatever legislation the president supports that makes it to the Senate will be approved..
We don’t live in a TRUMP! empire. We are a free people who live in a republic of over two centuries’ standing, of which the separation of powers is a key part. People need to stop judging every political event through a simple-minded lens, and sometimes looking through this lens in kind of a dumb way of how it affects TRUMP!
The Constitution and the freedom of future generations of Americans depends on us getting a grip. There will still be a USA after this president leaves office, Sen. McConnell is politically a friend of the president, not an enemy. They are both politicians, and therefor deserve entirely our skepticism, but given their roles in the US system, they are on the same team.

Exactly. That is move the impeachment ball down the field gaslighting. I’m thinking the GOP Senate plan now is to hide beyond Roberts while Senate Democrats assault POTUS and his supporters for months on end. Roberts can rule the hoaxblower and Bidens out of bounds.

Bill Clinton was impeached on December 19, 1998. His trial began in the first week of January 1999, and lasted until February 12th.
I don't know what you mean by "record time." There was only one other impeachment trial before that for a U.S. President, and that lasted about three months. In Clinton's case, there were absolutely NO facts in dispute ... and the trial STILL took more than a month.

Between McConnell, the rogue Republicans, and Chief Justice Roberts... I trust this process about as much as I would trust a process that saw a five time convicted rapist, given quality alone-time with my wife or daughter.

He can't be "witness zero," because there's no formal evidence record anywhere indicating who he is.
Another witness -- probably that Sergeant Vindman misfit -- who would have to be called to testify and be compelled to identify who this "whistleblower" was. Then you move on to that jackass.
Personally, I believe that coup lawyer Mark Zaid should be the first witness called by the defense. He posted a Twitter message back in 2017 claiming that there were all kinds of insurgents in the U.S. government prepared to remove Trump from office, and he was allegedly representing the "whistleblower" as his attorney. So he should be called to testify and provide a list of all his clients to Trump's legal team.

Reid would get them in support of a Democrat POTUS. Why can’t Mitch? I think it’s clear it’s time for McConnell to go. He’s failing as majority leader. He’s given judiciary committee to a Senator who bragged he didn’t even vote for POTUS. He gave Murkowski her seniority back and plum committee assignments despite her spotty voting record. Etc., etc. Clearly, McConnell is only majority leader because he is weak.
There is so much ignorance about process. Mitch from the outset said the current rules in place for an impeachment would apply. These rules start with a presentation of the charges followed by a vote to call witnesses. Nancy wanted to change rules to require witnesses upfront. Mitch said no, that they would follow existing rules. Mitch didn’t cave. He is following the existing rules like he told nancy a month ago.
I don't think it works that way. The Senate trial is not like a Brett Kavanuagh or Clarence Thomas circus hearing. The Senators can only submit questions in writing. It will probably be anti-climactic for any of the losers in the Senate who are used to self-aggrandizing speeches on the Senate floor.
No offense, but anyone who is posting on this thread and doesn't even know these basic facts really has no credibility even if your opinions are good ones.
