FHP troopers find $1.2 million of cocaine in Florida woman’s car

Florida Highway Patrol troopers only meant to write a simple citation, but it quickly turned into a felony arrest after they found $1.2 million worth of cocaine.

Troopers pulled over 27-year-old Elizabeth Espinoza on Tuesday afternoon after observing illegal window tint on her vehicle on Interstate 75 southbound.

Troopers noticed she was acting exceedingly nervous, which stood out because of the innocuous nature of the stop.

Window tint and driver “is very nervous.”

Florida law enforcement has been using the same excuse to get a search warrant or driver search permission since the late 1970s.

Their best line:

“Is it OK if we search (or dog sniff) your car?”

Most drug drivers actually agree to a warrantless search.

Probably because they hope to get a plea bargain, even though a lot of them would drive away free if they demanded a search warrant.

It’s not mine officer, really!...............…

As part of my retirement package, I had to take a physical exam. the nurse had a check list of questions she was asking me. One of then was, “do you use tobacco products”? I told her no, then she said, “I see a pack of cigarettes in your shirt pocket.” I told her I was holding them for a friend who didn’t want his parents to know that he was a smoker.

She was not amused.

AFAIK in most places they don’t have to get permission to let the dog sniff your car.

I have a feeling this wasn’t Elizabeth’s coke and she will be squealing.

Nahhh. She’ll be fine. She’s likely a drug mule. And if she’s been doing this dependably for some time - she’ll get a free pass.

Drug Lords expect minor losses like this. It’s factored in to the P & L.

I thought I was the only driver in Florida without illegal window tint.

It’s a legal technicality, but the dog doesn’t sniff the car, it sniffs the air around the car, at least until it alerts on something which may generate probable cause for a search of the car.

Right, so they don’t need your permission.

Re: No warrant for dog sniff

For private cars? I am very surprised to hear that.

They can sniff your luggage at the airport, but only after you voluntarily pass it over to the airline.

They can sniff for explosives almost anywhere.

But sniff a privately owned car for drugs with no warrant or permission - I am very surprised to hear that.

On Live PD the Pasco Florida county K9 deputy has his dog sniff every car he pulls over. When people ask him why he tells them because he pulled them over and he has the dog.

These mules are STUPID.

I won’t offer suggestions (don’t want them to get away with it!!).

However, anyone with half a brain could minimise the chances of getting pulled over.
