Borden Dairy Co., one of America's oldest and largest dairy companies, on Monday became the second major milk producer to file for bankruptcy in the last two months.
Tumbling milk consumption combined with the rising price of milk have crippled the dairy industry with debt. Dean Foods, America's largest milk producer, filed for bankruptcy November 12.

The Feds scientifically unsupported war on fat killed another industry.
Yes.
I now render my own lard from pig leaf fat, free from a local meat plant. Clear and tasteless. Less cholesterol than butter, best for pastry and great for frying, has a higher smoke temperature.
At one time Borden’s made the best chocolate milk you could get.
Oat’s got the mouth feel of cream.
I can't abide half & half. I'm a light cream guy. If there is no light cream for my coffee, I'll go without until I can get some.
It is “so sad.”
I feel as though I lost a friend.
I hope this doesn’t mean we will be deprived of milk, I will protest that vigorously.
Blessed are the cheese makers!
I have food allergies....use coconut milk on cereal now, also makes great hot cocoa. Coconut oil (unrefined) is my butter substitute. Looks like white butter, not actually an oil. Great on toast, hot veggies, for baking.
Much more healthy too. Fat isn't the problem.
I like light cream too. Just seems to be harder to find.
I’m easy to please.
Shame. Borden got its start just down near the bottom of the hill from The Center. All thats left of the original operation is a trickley little cascade fed from Burr Pond.
True, that. We also had a bottle of chocolate milk delivered with the regular milk bottles. Back in the 1950s everyone was getting milk delivered to the doorstep, no one stole anything. We also had bread, pastries and meat delivered. Even though there was a grocery store practically on every block. Life was good back then.
None here, thanks-I stopped drinking milk at around 7 or 8-by then I was eating cheese and yogurt, and I still do-I use real butter, no margarine or that “plant butter” crap in this house-a lot of nutritionists don’t think adults should be drinking liquid milk but cheese, yogurt, butter are just fine. Maybe Borden should go heavily into the cheese yogurt and butter production-everyone I know buys a lot of all 3 of those-but not liquid milk unless they have very young children-and many prefer goats milk for young children to drink because it is easier to digest-there are plenty of diary goats out here...

I few years ago, I caught a 23” brown trout under Borden Bridge using a No. 18 BWO.
I'm more of a heavy whipping cream sort of guy.
“Damn Almonds.” And Vegans.
The Kissing Bandit!
Some years ago I was on a business trip to California...OC. I went to pick up coffee fixins' and tried to find light cream. A couldn't even find whole milk.
Soy, almond, skim and 1%. The only cream I could find at Albertson's or 5 other stores was whipping cream. I asked several employees if they had light cream. None even knew what it was.
So...whipping cream diluted with 1% milk...and I was a happy dude. Mystified but happy.
