One U.S. service member and two American Department of Defense contractors were killed in a terror attack on a military base in Kenya that houses some U.S. military personnel. The Somali terror group al-Shabab has claimed responsibility for the attack that Kenyan authorities said had been repelled with four militants killed in the fighting.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of our teammates who lost their lives today," U.S. Army Gen. Stephen Townsend, commander of U.S. Africa Command, said in a statement Sunday afternoon. "As we honor their sacrifice, let's also harden our resolve. Alongside our African and international partners, we will pursue those responsible for this attack and al-Shabaab who seeks to harm Americans and U.S. interests."
Two DOD employees were also wounded in the attack. They were listed in stable condition and were being evacuated, according to a statement from U.S. Africa Command.
The identities of those who were killed were being withheld, pending notification of their next of kin.

I am guessing this is the work of teams that Soleimani was supporting. They are mad that their support may be ended. This is not violence that is caused by his death. Its violence that was meant for another place or another person. But its been trained on US soldiers instead. Its not well thought out. It will not be well planned. And they will not be very effective. But they may cause a few casualties. Their losses will be greater than they would have otherwise been. Think of it as the thrashing of a huge snake, after you cut the head off.

in a secret effort at detente, two of the most formidable organizations in the Middle East held a previously undisclosed summit at a Turkish hotel to seek common ground at a time of sectarian war.
The 2014 summit brought together the foreign military arm of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, known as the Quds Force, and the Muslim Brotherhood, a sprawling Islamist political movement with significant influence throughout the region.
The Quds Force represents the world’s most powerful Shia-dominated nation, while the Muslim Brotherhood is a stateless but influential political and religious force in the Sunni Muslim world. The Trump administration designated the Revolutionary Guards a foreign terrorist organization in April, and the White House has reportedly been lobbying to add the Muslim Brotherhood to the list as well.
The disclosure that two such polarizing organizations on either side of the Sunni-Shia divide held a summit is included in a leaked archive of secret Iranian intelligence reports obtained by The Intercept.
There were public meetings and contacts between Iranian and Egyptian officials while Muslim Brotherhood-backed Mohamed Morsi was president of Egypt from 2012 to 2013. But Morsi was forced from power in a coup supported by the Egyptian Army in July 2013 and later arrested. The regime of Abdel Fattah el-Sisi launched a crackdown on the Muslim Brotherhood, and many of its leaders have since been imprisoned in Egypt or are living in exile.
An Iranian intelligence cable about the 2014 meeting provides an intriguing glimpse at a secret effort by the Muslim Brotherhood and Iranian officials to maintain contact — and determine whether they could still work together — after Morsi was removed from power.
If Kenya handles this as I think they may it will be a purge of terrorists in a manner that will be unreal. Kenya may actually line them up ninth street and end them in front of a crowd of onlookers just for the hell of it.

There has been ongoing hostilities in the region. Seems the radical Al Shabaab want to take over Somalia with Sharia law. Kenya is resisting the jihadi influences. The air base there and DOD contractors work primarily to quell the Al Shabaab terrorist acts in the area.
Someone I know flew back with the bodies earlier today. It is very, very sad. Thank God he is safe. Not sure if the Kenyans were supposed to provide higher levels of security there? Something went horribly wrong.
I don’t think it was directly a response to the Iranian issues.

Iran had no problem letting the Sunnis who attacked us on 9/11 transfer thru Iran.
Could be— keep in mind that the Quds Force is direct reporting to the Ayatollah Khameni, and they are 10-20K in number with their funds going to all sorts of clandestine partners in their terror networks, possibly this one in Kenya.
So, possibly, maybe probably. Toast time for Iran’s first targets. They will not be able to keep this up.
The Chinese are not going to put up with their crap. Although the Chinese simply come in, take what they want, and don’t care about the natives.
China is all over Africa. We will see how well they play with our Muslim friends in “the natural.”
Why are we in Kenya to begin with?
