ASPIRE TO A VISION
A scene in the movie Karate Kid was quite striking. Daniel went to see Mr. Miyagi and found him trimming a delicate bonsai tree. Daniel was fascinated and wanted to try it, but he had no idea how it was done. Miyagi told him to close his eyes and picture in his mind the way he wanted the tree to look. After Daniel found that vision in his mind, Miyagi told him to open his eyes and start trimming the tree. Daniel's every move was deliberate and focused. Then he stopped. He asked, "How do I know if my picture is right?" Miyagi replied, "If the picture comes from your heart, then it must be right. Just trust your picture". Changes in our personal attitudes and behavior are difficult. However, change is possible if we aspire to a vision. Moses didn't think of liberating the Israelite slaves in Egypt until his experience with God and the burning bush. Paul didn't believe in Jesus until he received a vision while on his journey to Damascus. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave himself to the Civil Rights Movement because he had a dream of equality. Prayer: Lord, help us vision our changes, and change to achieve our vision for the enrichment of our marriages, our health, and our quality of life. Amen.

January 5Shining the Light
You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.
Matthew 5:14Stephen told his parents that he needed to get to school early every day, but for some reason he never explained why it was so important. Yet they made sure he arrived at Northview High School by 7:15 each morning.
On a wintry day during his junior year, Stephen was in a car accident that sadly took his life. Later, his mom and dad found out why hed been going to school so early. Each morning he and some friends had gathered at the school entrance to greet other students with a smile, a wave, and a kind word. It made all studentseven those who werent popularfeel welcomed and accepted.
A believer in Jesus, Stephen wanted to share His joy with those who desperately needed it. His example lives on as a reminder that one of the best ways to shine the light of Christs love is by gestures of kindness and through a welcoming spirit.
In Matthew 5:1416, Jesus reveals that in Him were the light of the world and a town built on a hill (v. 14). Ancient cities were often built of white limestone, truly standing out as they reflected the blazing sun. May we choose not to be hidden but to give light to everyone in the house (v. 15).
And as we let [our] light shine before others (v. 16), may they experience the welcoming love of Christ.

Reflect & Pray
Whats one way you could be more welcoming to the lonely and needy around you? How can the Holy Spirit help you be a city set on a hill for others to see?
Heavenly Father, thank You for Stephens example. Like him, help me to show kindness and a welcoming spirit to everyone I meet.

Dear God: I ask that no Airman, Coast Guardsman, Marine, Sailor, Soldier, Reservist, National Guardsman, or Merchant Marine feel alone or forgotten.
O Israel, hope in the Lord; For with the Lord there is loving kindness, And with Him is abundant redemption. And He will redeem Israel From all his iniquities.

Has winter been treating you well? What is winter?
OK, the new year is only four days old but average daily temperature so far of 42.2, light rain and fog.
Feels like the Pacific northwest rather than the NEUS.

I hope you and Gizmo had a nicer day than we did for your lake outing. It was cloudy, WINDY, and cold here with a little sleet at one point.

We had spectacular weather yesterday. There were a couple of guys on the boat house pier. We also walked around the tall grass. I did have to untangle the leash rope at one point but that was about it. We had a great time.

Lucky you having spectacular weather.
I don’t know about spectacular but they say we’ll have nicer weather later today. Sunny and low 50s and that’s a big improvement.
