Make No Bones About Iran
Chronicles ^ | Jan 3 2020 | Tom Piatak

Posted on 01/04/2020 3:50:22 PM PST by rintintin

Otto von Bismarck famously declared the Balkans weren't worth the bones of a single Pomeranian grenadier. He knew that fractious, feuding part of Europe would soak up as much blood as the Germans cared to spill. Because Bismarck's successors forgot his wisdom, the Balkans ended up claiming the bones of millions, in what was naively called the Great War before it was eclipsed in bloodshed and horror twenty years later. Neither Germany nor her European adversaries have ever recovered.

The same could be said of the Middle East. The whole wretched place isn't worth the bones of a single Alabamian Marine. America has no vital interest there except oil. And, regarding the oil, whichever nation sits atop it has no choice but to sell it on the global market, since there is no other way for the backward economies of the region to generate sufficient revenue.

It is long past time for a definitive American withdrawal from that fractious, feuding part of the world. The attack on our embassy in Baghdad came about because we are contesting the Iranians for influence in Iraq. Invading and occupying Iraq has brought the U.S. nothing except flag-draped coffins, burgeoning VA wards, and fiscal ruin. Let someone else claim that so-called prize, and let us instead devote American lives and American treasure to promoting America’s interests.

Imagine how much better off we would be if the Americans killed and maimed in Iraq and Afghanistan were instead alive and vigorous, and if the hundreds of billions, even trillions, spent as a result of our Mideast misadventures had instead been devoted to productive economic activity, improving America's infrastructure, and solving American problems.

Right, because if we stop opposing Iran they will leave us alone. They would never do anything like, I dunno, bomb one of our barracks or two of them or take over an embassy and hold our personnel hostage.

No, never.

The difference this time around is the US is the economic gorilla and since gaining energy independence can use economic sanctions.

Should’a...Would’a...Could’a... Nothing so boring as a linear vision of history...

I’m glad that was short, because it was incomplete and stupid.

“The attack on our embassy in Baghdad came about because we are contesting the Iranians for influence in Iraq”

- buzzwords from the blame America first crowd. I will ignore as usual because they have nothing worthwhile to say.

If we leave thy will just kill each other. Sounds like a plan to me.

Agreed,

I cheered every day the whole time Iran and Iraq were at war.

All that time, they left everyone else the hell alone.

Sadly this article is exactly what Tucker Carlson has been saying.
I’m not for a war in the Middle East, but that doesn’t mean our embassies or citizens there should be attacked with impunity.

The Israelis would have killed this Iranian terrorist-general themselves if Bush hadn't prevented them in 2007, according to what I've been reading.

Israel is our ally and deserves our strong support. That does not mean keeping thousands of US troops in the Mideast indefinitely to serve as targets for the lunatics there - Israel is perfectly capable of taking care of itself if the US establishment types don't get in the way.

Israel is perfectly capable of defending itself — and it is hardly a “vital interest” of the U.S.

First time I’ve read Tom Piatak and I won’t again. He has an opinion but his experience and wisdom factors are quite low. There’s nothing to gain from him anymore than from Harvey my drunken neighbor.

Candidate-Nominee-President Trump said repeatedly and is now making good on his pledge that we the United States are controlling Iraqi Oil and we will surcharge it indefinitely to pay for the 2 trillion dollars and thousands upon thousands of American lives that George W. Dumbass wasted and never bothered to make the Iraqi Government pay for by taking the oil.

We are in Iraqi now not only for payback but also to let the Islamic REGIME Aholes know that Israel is off limits to their scheming designs and excuses.

BTW Iran was once an affluent country with a thriving middle class and low tolerance for Mullah BS. Today’s Iranians are fed up with their regime and want to return to the Iran of their parents and grandparents when a good stable life was possible.

President Trump will not need to make widespread war on Iran. He will let missiles and drones do the talking at selected targets but to see the regime there collapse, he only needs to back the Iranian people and they will take out the trash themselves.

Agreed. The world is a better place without the Iranian general we killed and I'm glad he's gone, but we should not have military forces in Iraq in the first place. The entire reason Iran now dominates Iraq is because we went in and overthrew Saddam and his sons - if Bush had stuck to Afghanistan, Saddam and the Ayatollahs could be killing each other without our involvement.

My friends POTUS wants us out. Just let the protesters push our country in that direction. He pulls out, everyone is on their own and the rest of the world wants to deal with us for oil. He should slap the mullahs around on the way out or give the Kurds their homeland. It’s a recipe for more wars. We got the weapons to sell them.

“If ‘ifs’ and ‘buts’ were candy and nuts, what a Merry Christmas we all would have.”

Transmitting personal fears in the public does no one any good but our enemies.

The Iranians sent Soldiers to invade Iraq and attack our personnel in Iraq.

Seems pretty cut and dried to me.

Qasem needed to die.

If Iran wants to keep attacking Americans, then more of their leaders should die.
