Exclusive: The Inspector General Missed Yet Another Lie From The FBI
The Federalist ^ | January 2, 2020 | Margot Cleveland

Much has been missed, including one significant misrepresentation contained in all four of the Carter Page FISA applications—an inaccuracy even the IG’s team overlooked.

Left-leaning politicians and the press spent more than three years pushing the Russia collusion hoax. Yet, following the inspector general’s release of his 478-page report on Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) abuse, after making quick mention of the top-line findings, the media moved on. As a result, much has been missed, including one significant misrepresentation contained in all four of the Carter Page FISA applications—an inaccuracy even the IG’s team overlooked.

Two passages, separated by more than 50 pages, when read together reveal an eighth significant inaccuracy and omission from the first FISA application, and one repeated in the later three renewals: Steele’s sources and sub-sources were not ones he used or developed during his time with the British intelligence service MI6, contrary to the impression created in the FISA applications.

This detail was dropped in a footnote in the IG report, following this text: “Steele told us he had a source network in place with a proven ‘track record’ that could deliver on Fusion GPS’s requirements. Steele added that this source network previously had furnished intelligence on Russian interference in European affairs.”

The relevant footnote, footnote 214, then read: “Steele told us that this source network did not involve sources from his time as a [redacted] and was developed entirely in the period after he retired from government service.” The redacted language undoubtedly referred to Steele’s British intelligence work.

That Steele’s “source network did not involve sources from his time” with British intelligence proves extremely significant when considered in tandem with the details the IG provided about the FISA application process in general, and the specifics of the Page FISA applications.

The IG report began with a general description of the FISA process, explaining that a proposed application, typically referred to as a “read copy,” is presented to the FISA court. Then the FISA court “will review the read copy, evaluate whether it meets the requirements of the statute, and, through a legal advisor, discuss with the assigned attorney, any issues the legal advisor or judge identified.” This process, the IG noted, “allows FISC legal advisors to have informal interaction with [the National Security Division’s Office of Intelligence], to convey any questions, concerns, or requests for additional information from the legal advisor or judge before a final application is filed.”

In the Page case, the first read copy submitted to the FISA court “contained a description of the source network that included the fact that Steele relied upon a Primary Sub-source who used a network of sub-sources, and that neither Steele nor the Primary Sub-source had direct access to the information being reported.” The read copy “also contained a separate footnote on each sub-source with a brief description of his/her position or access to the information he/she was reporting.”

In response to the read copy, the FISA court’s “legal advisor asked how it was that Steele had a network of sub-sources.” After the Office of Intelligence (OI) attorney “provided additional information to him regarding Steele’s past employment history,” the legal advisor requested that additional information be included in the final application.

The final version of the October 2016 FISA application included the requested description, which again remains redacted, but surely concerns Steele’s prior spy work for the United Kingdom.

But, as highlighted above, the source network Steele relied upon to craft his dossier was not developed or used during his previous life as a British intelligence agent. By stressing Steele’s prior work with MI6 in response to the legal advisor’s questioning of Steele’s network of sources, the DOJ created the false impression that the network of sources that Steele used and relied upon for his dossier were also used and relied upon by the British government.

That the legal advisor not only raised the question about Steele’s access to a network of sources, but then insisted that the FISA application be updated to include information concerning Steele’s prior government position, shows the FISA court placed great significance on Steele’s previous British intelligence work for purposes of assessing the reliability of his source network.

The DOJ’s failure to inform the FISA court that Steele’s sources and sub-sources were privately acquired—or the FBI’s failure to inquire of these facts in light of the FISA court’s query—is yet another significant inaccuracy and omission in the FISA application

Once something is known to be fake, it doesn’t really need to be certified nor guaranteed fake. When Steele was interviewed by Kathleen Kavalek Oct 11, 2016 he informed her that the Russian colluders and interferers were being paid out of the Russian consulate in Miami. This was laid out in her handwritten (later type written) notes from her i’view with him. Handwritten notes are kind of “a thing”, they strongly imply simultaneous recording; taken right at the event and far less subject to fudging and misremembering. Like later instance of FBI 302s (interview notes) of Flynn in particular and the fact that these notes were typed out EIGHT MONTHS LATER, the handwritten originals having been lost. Kavalek knew and noted at once that there was no Russian consulate in Miami and she noted that conclusion at the time.

And yet the FBI swore on Oct. 21, 2016, to the FISA judges that Steele’s “reporting has been corroborated and used in criminal proceedings” and the FBI has determined him to be “reliable” and was “unaware of any derogatory information pertaining” to their informant.

The FBI deliberately ignored all evidence that their prime document was fake in order to get their first FISA warrant and each of three renewals, during which time additional exculpatory evidence came out and/or was developed. They also ignored plenty of derogatory information about and accepted Steeles’ claims at face value.

Steele was paid to lie and he did. But others submitted those lies, knowingly and willfully, under oath or affirmation to a court of law for the purpose of surveilling US citizens, which amounts to both conspiracy to deny rights and actual violation of rights. Those are the ones needing punishment.

The PRESIDENT was Framed.

Any “focus group” would understand the gravity of FRAMING anyone, which was what was done to this POTUS and to those associated with his campaign, in order to take out a US President.

A foreign power doing this would be a covert Act of War. That the US JUSTICE DEPARTMENT/FBI FRAMED any American is actually worse and they should be punished Severely, if not hanged.

To say, as even all conservative media is saying, that TRUMP was “SET UP” misses the mark, focuses the collective mind away from plain Sedition, or Treason, and congers up sources and methods that can wait for Trials.

The Bottom line is simple. Treason is simple. Sedition is simple.

Where are those words?

The media complicates. The media wants a long old narrative, for clicks and hits and ratings. The media bogs us down and obscures the simplicity of what occurred— a blatant Act of Sedition/Treason.

Why hasn’t Steele been held to any account for anything?

Like any other intel operative he has likely gathered a file of blackmail material on important people to be used in a scorched-earth threat if it looks like he is going down.

Perhaps the Trump administration needs to have 17 coup plotters “mistakenly” sent to Gitmo, including Comey, Steele, Strzok, Page, Brennan and zerobama. Just say “oops” and nobody can get in trouble for the “mistakes”. Isn’t that how it works in Washington?

It no longer matter to the media leftists. Because everyone involved has said "oh terrible mistakes were made, we were sloppy and we're sorry about that" and thuse they have paid their penance, nothing more to see. They are exhibiting "right think" so there is no punishment neeeded.

As am aside I recently saw an analysis of, of all things, modern comic books and the SJW values they are pushing and it was surprisingly illuminating. The narrator was citing the works of Augustine and the like to make his case so it was someone who had some credibility.

The key was the idea of justice. Historically the idea of justice centered on the law and acts. If you acted against the law, there was a punishment and that was that. But in the SJW mindset, crimes aren't about the act but rather the thought behind it. In their view, there are no inherently bad or evil people, only wrong thinkers. So the purpose of prison is not to punish or remove you, it's to get your mind right. To rehabilitate you by correcting your thinking. And that cannot have a predetermined sentence, it's however long it takes for your thinking to be fixed. It could be fifteen minutes in front of a microphone saying oops or it could be the rest of your life in a gulag if you won't.

This is why leftists who are caught doing terrible things rush out to issue a non-apology and then, because they've demonstrated correct-thinking, they are allowed to just move on with no consequences. It's also why conservatives, even if they do immense good, are still hated and considered "evil". Because they think wrong. And it's why, if they could, they'd either put us away for life or kill us outright if they think they can't change us. They feel that's morally justified.

AAG Matthew Whitaker Discusses Upcoming IG Report on FISA Abuse and Trump Campaign Surveillance (FR thread)

Following leaked revelations that former FBI lawyer Kevin Clinesmith manipulated evidence to attain a Title-1 surveillance warrant against U.S. person Carter Page to conduct political espionage against the Trump campaign, former AAG Matthew Whitaker discusses the IG investigation and upcoming IG report.

Whitaker notes the bigger issues are how the FISA process generally has been abused and potentially long-term ramifications.

It is also worth remembering it wasn’t just “wiretaps” that were gained, the FBI requested and received full Title-1 surveillance authority including:
<><>wiretaps,
<><> electronic surveillance,
<><> the use of bugs and tracking devices,
<><> physical surveillance,
<><> electronic surveillance
<><> satellite geo-location surveillance
<><> and much more.

The FBI requested a type of surveillance generally reserved for tracking suspected terrorists.

When Mr. Clinesmith manipulated evidence to attain the warrant, he was working under the guidance of FBI supervisory agent Peter Strzok.

I believe Steele lied when he said he did not use anyone in MI6; it’s the dirty secret they are trying to hide: MI6 worked with our CIA to oust President Trump.

This wouldn’t be the first time Steele told a self-serving lie. Hence, I don’t believe in this instance the IG “missed it”, rather, I believe the IG doesn’t believe it and likely has evidence to prove Steele used MI6 and other state resources.
