Virginia House Del. Ibraheem Samirah introduced a bill that would override local zoning officials to permit multi-family housing in every neighborhood, changing the character of quiet suburbs.
Oregon passed a similar bill, following moves by cities such as Minneapolis; Austin, Texas; and Seattle.
Proponents say urban lifestyles are better for the environment and that suburbs are bastions of racial segregation.

Now more than ever home-rule for municipalities is very important. If State statutes allow such and your town is not- urge your council members to get on the ball to change that, if possible.

I think I see the problem here.
Are they this stupid or are they trying to lose the next election? Both?
Zoning is normally a local prerogative. I’m not sure the VA Constitution would allow state pre-emption of local zoning codes. Ibraheeeem will likely find that Dem representatives from NOVA will not want to anger their property-owning government employee constituents in leafy suburbs — they might be liberals, but multifamily housing is so “little people”.
The housing and single family dwelling code already gives a minimum square footage based on number of occupants. Most city have zoning requirement that exceed that minimum. Mostly because that minimum would not generate much property tax revenue.
Traveling through Europe, what one immediately notices is there are few single family homes. Abundance of single family homes is what distinguishes us from Europe and Big cities in Asia. Of course progressives want us to look like Europe, with middle class living in apartments, high taxes and gov’t run healthcare.
It was their idea in the 60’s to create vertical ghettos for black people. Now in order to atone for that mistake they want to create vertical ghettos for white people.
I’m hoping that this crap is Hitler in the bunker stuff, because they know that they are about to lose bigly.

A real estate agent is prohibited by law from discussing neighborhood racial demographics.
I my small Montana town the city requires this of developers of more than X lots.
My wife’s RE Company represents a Developer and the current subdivision is seven phases in total 20 to 40 lots per phase.
There is ONE area for multi family(MF) homes. It is sold as ONE development and currently is under contract to close early 2020.
Lots in the subdivision have been for sale for five years and only NOW is the one MF area under contract...
If there was more money in MF units this would have sold long ago...
This is in Virginia, the “Sic Semper Tyrannis” state. This might be a good time for Virginians to consider what that means.
In Virginia, the Democrats are in complete control and have rigged the elections with illegal alien and non citizen voting so that they will be in power for decades to come.
Virginia is now and forever East California.
