Consider, for example, that it requires 67 votes in the Senate to oust Trump from office. That means that 34 votes are needed to preserve his position. Even if he were deeply unpopular, if Trump maintained support from senators in 17 states, he could keep his job. Meaning, in the most extreme scenario, that he could be impeached but not removed from office if senators from the 17 least-populous states — representing about 7 percent of the population — decided to stand by him.

Remember the picture of the Dems leading the impeachment effort? They were all from NY and CA. The WP really thinks that those two states should be running the country. They rail against the Electoral College and recently they’ve come to attack the Senate as being “fundamentally undemocratic”. After all, in the Senate, WY has equal weight to CA. They just don’t like how our government was constructed by the ‘Framers’—not Founding Fathers, and are sure they could do a much better job.
Well, it’s just really too bad. The equal representation of states in the Senate is the one untouchable part of the Constitution. They’ll just have to live with our “deeply flawed” Constitution.

If they were somehow to remove Trump from office, 5 minutes later the State of New York would find some bogus felony to charge him with. Their goal is to put him and his family in prison for daring to challenge them and win.
An hour after removing Trump from office they would start working on the impeachment of President Pence.
That is the mentality we are up against.
