Former Director: FBI ‘Not a Broken Institution,’ Criticizing It Threatens ‘Rule of Law’
Breitbart ^ | 12/16/19 | JOSHUA CAPLAN

Posted on 12/16/2019 10:56:43 AM PST by Enlightened1

Former CIA and FBI Director William Webster declared in an op-ed Monday that the Federal Bureau of Investigation is not a “broken institution” and criticizing it threatens the “rule of law,” in an attempt to quell public outcry over agents’ misconduct during the 2016 election.

Webster’s full-throated defense of the two agencies comes amid the fallout from the Department of Justice Inspector General (IG) report, in which it was confirmed that FBI officials made 17 “significant inaccuracies and omissions” in its submissions to the FISA court to obtain warrants to surveil former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page during the 2016 presidential election.

“The rule of law is the bedrock of American democracy, the principle that protects every American from the abuse of monarchs, despots and tyrants. Every American should demand that our leaders put the rule of law above politics,” he added.

Webster then lashed out at President Donald Trump for criticizing the FBI over DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s findings, suggesting his remarks threaten the bureau’s independence. The former official expressed his full confidence in FBI Director Christopher Wray and said the notion that he could be removed from his post, akin to the bureau’s previous director, James Comey, “disturbs me greatly.”

Webster then took aim at the president for referring to anti-Trump FBI officials implicated in Horowitz’s report as “scum” and attempted to cast doubt on Attorney General William Barr’s independence, citing U.S. Attorney John Durham’s now-criminal investigation into the origins of the FBI’s Russia probe.

Hey Bill,
Up yours pal.
FBI is, and has been crappola big time for years. Especially the years of the magic negro on.
1st amendment pal. Gives me the right to flip the bird in public to you or anybody else.
Consider you and the once vaunted FBI flipped off, pal.

No - they need to identify the problems and the corrective action taken already (not later) to convince the public. Maybe use a panel of well respected persons like Candeleeza Rice, Ed Meese, James Baker - some old respected public leaders who kept their noses clean; to authenticate the corrections. I don’t know how, but it can be done an should be done.

In one breath - The Law must be upheld
Next Breath - Barr and Durham, officers of the law, are attacked

Does Webster have a load in his Depends? He isn’t himself.

“...criticizing it threatens the “rule of law,” in an attempt to quell public outcry over agents’ misconduct during the 2016 election.”

Here’s the problem. If the criticism is valid, it’s the FBI that’s undermining the “rule of law”. An illustration from semi-recent history. O.J. Simpson was acquitted of a murder he committed. How could a jury find him innocent? At the time I believed it was because of some kind of racial solidarity—blacks standing up for a black man. And that may well have been some of the reason.

But a few years later it came out that the L.A.P.D. routinely planted evidence on bad characters, thus increasing their sentences. This was well-known in the black community (and I assume it was well-known as well in the L.A.P.D.). When the jury heard that the Detective found the bloody glove (while supposedly entering the property to “warn” OJ) the jury simply didn’t believe it.

Several dozen thugs were turned loose and received monetary compensation to boot. If the FBI is not on the up and up, it deserves to be criticized. I believe the right to criticize is covered by the 1st Amendment right to free speech and the right to petition the government for redress of grievances.

In some ways the FBI is worse the the Gestapo. At least Herr Hitler had some control over the Gestapo. The FBI is on auto pilot and answers to no one.

The FBI was a broken institution when J. Edgar Hoover cleaned it up. It was corrupt before he took over.

Show us, Mr. Webster, any quotes from the Founders recommending that the United States should institute a secret police that is empowered to spy on Americans after lying to get approval for this spying from a secret court.

The Founders would be profoundly disappointed that anyone guilty of such egregious trampling on civil liberties has not been arrested, tried, and convicted.

Clearly the checks and balances within the organization are broken.

Making anything above criticism is almost guaranteed to result in abuses.

And if it’s not broken, why is he afraid of criticism.

Sorry Webster, but the FBI is NOT ‘independent’, and you sure as hell know that.

By the way, where the hell were you when Obama referred to Holder as his ‘wingman’?

We as a nation have faced this tiereny since are inception. There have been some major losses along the way that we now accept as normal, such as the FederalReserve, Department of Education, The Senate no longer appointed by the states they represent, the Press no longer being required to fund themselves, the IRS, I could go on and on but as is now apparent that all have been weaponized against our nation to bring us inline with global objectives. So the people in power now see what is coming and are stealing as much as possible, for there will be no middle class, only the elite or peasants. I am in this world, but not of it.

It has lost so much credibility that Defense Lawyers are drooling at the prospect of challenging any and all FBI Investigations.

I don't favor eliminating the FBI but its culture, leadership and oversight has to be substantially reformed and Chris Wray is not the guy to do it.

It is incomprehensible how Webster can say that criticism of the FBI undermines the rule of law. I would say that the FBI keeping 4 innocent people in prison, one of which died in prison, for no other reason than maintaining the FBI reputation undermines the rule of law. I think that the fact that the FBI killed or wounded 150 people and in every case they were deemed justified because they investigated themselves would undermine the rule of law due to its absolute lack of transparency. I would think that their gross abuse of the rights of citizens in numerous investigations without consequences undermines the rule of law.

If the FBI will falsify investigations against the President and the National Security Advisor (Flynn) what do you think they do against someone like the Bundy brothers or Oliver Stone let alone someone like poor guy in the ghetto that has no means to defend themselves?
