Trump Mocks Global Warming, Lowballs Sea Level Rise
FactCheck.org ^ | December 12, 2019 | By Jessica McDonald

At a campaign rally, President Donald Trump mocked concerns about global warming, saying that oceans would rise just “[o]ne-eighth of an inch within the next 250 years.” Although Trump’s comment may have been a joke - and not intended to be a prediction of sea level rise - his figure is many times lower than scientific estimates.

Trump’s remark came in Hershey, Pennsylvania, during a section of his speech bashing wind power - one of his favorite topics at rallies. This time, the president also jokingly referenced global warming, poking fun at people who are concerned about sea level rise.

Trump, Dec. 10: You’d have windmills all over the place if you had Crooked Hillary, they’d be knocking out those birds left and right. Those windmills, wah, wah wah. Darling, I want to watch television tonight and there’s no damn wind. What do I do? I want to watch the election results, darling, there’s no wind, the damn wind just isn’t blowing like it used to because of global warming, I think. I think it’s global warming. Global warming, no more wind, no more life! The oceans are going to rise. One-eighth of an inch within the next 250 years, we’re going to be wiped out!

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, global sea level is currently increasing by about an eighth of an inch per year, not an eighth of an inch over two-and-a-half centuries. The Trump campaign did not respond to a request for comment.

Trump greatly underestimates the scale of the problem, and his dismissal of the dangers of sea level rise is not based in science.

This says that the Pacific Ocean level over recent decades has actually been dropping, super slowly, at the rate of 0.08 inches per century. There are some locations around the Pacific Rim where coastal land is subsiding but that has nothing to do with the ocean level itself.

What about the islands that are tipping over and capsizing all over the Pacific?

The last time I was playing golf in Bermuda, the island kept tipping to one side every time I putted. I know it had nothing to do with my sipping cocktails.

It was very scary.

It's an all-encompassing indictment of everyone who ever drew a breath and aren't living in solar-powered yurts and gone full Euell Gibbons yet. We're allegedly denying Pippy Wrongstocking of her right to swim free among the tropical icebergs with baby harp seals and happy gay whales. Or some shit. I don't even think they know anymore, they just want......something. It's hippy-dippy-ism gone corporate, and the big players (e.g., Soros, the U.N., the EU) are using stunted little Mongoloids as message-bearers now because the public is finally tuning out the entertainment spokes-scolds. The more radical ones would have us squatting beside a fire pit and roasting root vegetables for dinner.

Ok, in that case, one whole inch in the next 250 years.

How much has the sea risen in the last 50 years? The last 100 years?

The sea level liars never say. Why? Because it hasn’t risen. I’m 64 and I walk on the same docks as I did 50 years ago and the water level is where it was 50 years ago.

There is no way to fact check that. Only way to do it is to wait 251 years and then measure the depth of the oceans.

These a$$holes really don’t know how to understand Trump. They don’t know how to deal with truth. I understand him perfectly. It’s almost fun to watch these people drooling while they attempt to explain Trump.

What is perceived as rising sea level is actually continental drift subsistence

No. Actual, measured global average sea level rise REMAINS STEADY at 2.2 to 2.3 mm per year, less than 1 inch decade, less than 10 inches per century. About 1 meter in 400 years.

Gonna give Trump one here: The numbers he remembered are low. Probably thinking the 1/8 per year as 1/8 per century. Or, more likely, he used the 1/8 per year instead of 8 per century.

Who runs factcheck.org? Oh no Trump was wrong about sea rise level. Sure 1/8th per year but for how long will that trend continue?

Yes the Toronto Star has some list of all Trump’s “lies”. I think it borrows it from Huffington Post or something? Any how like I tell my six year old. I said I would play a game with you at 6:00. The fact I did not do it does not mean I lied. It means I forgot. Something children have a hard time understanding. A mistruth is not a lie. But the list the Star employs are largely just misstatements or subjects of hyperbole or subjective opinion. Very petty. These fact checkers are checking subjectives. So when Trump says “this is the greatest economy in 100 years” you can’t fact check that. In all fairness you can criticize the comment as being a weak argument because what does “greatest economy” mean? It could mean 100 things.

Maybe this is nothing but the mini ice age of 1970 melting.

I had my letterman’s jacket and wore it a lot but not because it was cold.

...how do you “FACT CHECK” predictions????

Liberal 'elites' pull out their crystal balls, make up a story, have their corrupt 'scientists' vote on it, then hand 'the facts' to the 'journalists' they own ... to print.

-------------------------------------------

White Liberal "Elites" who murder conservative children signal each other by scratching their heads. Look for the signals... it could save your child's life... (very similar to the OK sign the Southern Poverty Law Center has identified as outing a 'white supremacists' -except it outs killers)

National Grid electricity blackout report points to failure at wind farm
Financial Times UK - 16 Aug 2019

20 Aug: Bloomberg: U.K. Renewable Energy Mix Faces Scrutiny in Blackout Probe
By Jeremy Hodges
National Grid Plc will investigate how to better incorporate the U.K.’s increasing share of renewable energy in the power mix after a blackout earlier this month saw more than one million homes lose power.

The probe was sparked by the Aug. 9 blackout, that also caused havoc on the transport networks, after a lightening strike north of London led to Orsted A/S’s giant Hornsea One offshore wind farm failing roughly at the same time as RWE AG’s Little Barford gas plant. Renewable energy, which is mainly intermittent, accounted for a third of the nation’s power last year...
