A bipartisan defense budget agreement will authorize the creation of the Space Force.
The Space Force will be, like the Army or Air Force, a distinct military service under the Pentagon.
The service will take over space functions from existing services, wielding them into a single independent branch overseen by a Chief of Space Operations.
Its really happening. A bipartisan budget agreement for 2020 will see the creation of a new branch of the military specifically oriented towards space. The United States Space Force will be the first new service branch in more than 60 years, tasked to ensure Americas freedom to operate in outer spaceor take space away from somebody else.

I want to know the real reason we’re getting a space force.
We will finally get real space cadets.
Because it’s not an environment in which we want to play catch-up to China.
Someone has to kill the bugs.
The uniform is a silver jumpsuit and fishbowl helmet.
If you fall behind China in Space, China will not let you catch up.
I’m implying that I want to know who is out there and what they want.
If we don’t have the capability yet, we need to put Rods from God in place. And we should not be reluctant to use them. I oppose nation building. I oppose boots on the ground. But devastating the bad guys from space? I’m OK with that.
I would envision it eventually assuming control over the AF portion of NORAD, the launch site at Vandenburg, and possibly part (or all) of NASA. It will also give some General the opportunity to be involved in their favorite past time... creating uniform changes!
NASA should remain its own thing.
Will the B-52 play a prominent role? Will space command do another upgrade to get it into space and beyond?
