Sen. Mike Lees S.386 green card giveaway to Indias U.S.-based workers has created a new opponent: dairy farmers who fear his bill will kill their ability to recruit and reward long-serving dairy workers with U.S. green cards.
The result is that South Dakota Sen. Mike Rounds will block Lees next attempt to pass his giveaway to India via the Senates Unanimous Consent rule, which is expected next week.
He is planning to object to a U.C., a Hill source told Breitbart News, if Lee cannot address Senator Rounds concerns about dairy farms in South Dakota.
Rounds admitted his concerns in a December 4 constituent letter, saying Lees S.386 might disadvantage green card allocation for certain industries that are vitally important in South Dakota and across the country.
I dont care why they block it, as long as they block it, said Rosemary Jenks, the policy director at the NumbersUSA reform group. It would be good if Rounds did something useful, she added.
The concern among dairy state Senators is building, in part, because Lee is repeatedly trying to pass his bill by using the Senates Unaininous Consent rule. The rule allows a bill to pass unless any other Senator publicly disagrees on the Senate floor. So far, Lee has been repeatedly blocked by Democrat Sen. Dick Durbin who may soon lift his opposition, according to several sources.

Lee ought to stop while hes behind. This crap legislation should never be passed
At least we have one Senator that sides with US citizens occasionally...../s
Lee should be replaced at the next election.
ALL the Bush League Republicans need to be replaced before they give away our country.
Good!
We need an immigration freeze and massive deportations.
I can’t get anything resolved to my satisfaction without warring on unfortunate people in India pretending to be in America because the companies who hired them to take flack are too cowardly to deal with problems honestly. I hang in there until I get to who deserves the ball-kicking but still feel terrible for those they put up as shields.
The farmers would rather illegals.
Ok enlighten me. Isnt this just squabbling over who gets green cards?
Why is one more anti american than the other?
Unanimous consent needs to be made unconstitutional and so does voice votes.
All votes should be on the record.
No. It is further destroying jobs for American engineers. We don’t need to import Indian and Chinese workers to undercut American engineers
Exactly! One wants foreign workers for IT the other wants them for milking cows.
To heck with blocking selected provisions of this. Throw the whole thing in the trash.
We bought a TV from Costco exactly a year ago. It quit working two weeks ago and tonight I made my 4th call to Costco concierge service to have it repaired under warranty.
First two agents barely spoke English. Third hung up after putting me on hold for 12 minutes (and my wife was telling me I was being too nice) before I was rudely disconnected.
I’m sick of poor customer service everywhere, especially when you pay a premium to get it.
Rounds is apparently a mini-Thune. [D-Big

Even though Mexico gets all of the bad publicity for remittances it is actually India that benefits the most, receiving over twice as much money as Mexico.

If the new silicon valley in Utah can’t hire American workers then it should be shut down. There’s no earthly reason Americans can’t be hired.
Geez! You had to bring up a sad fact of our American youth!
Good point FRiend. If only the chaff could be separated from the wheat somehow...
