Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., sued CNN for defamation on Tuesday, accusing the cable network of publishing a demonstrably false hit piece about him amid his high-profile opposition to the Trump impeachment inquiry.
The 47-page lawsuit, filed in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, accuses the liberal network of publishing numerous egregiously false and defamatory statements about Nunes on Nov. 22, 2019 when journalist Vicky Ward reported claims that Nunes met with Ukranian prosecutor, Viktor Shokin, in Vienna in 2018 to dig "up dirt" on Hunter and Joe Biden.
Nunes, who has been leading GOP opposition to the House Democratic impeachment inquiry in the House Intelligence Committee, says he did not go to Vienna or anywhere else in Austria in 2018 and has never met Shokin.
CNN is the mother of fake news. It is the least trusted name. CNN is eroding the fabric of America, proselytizing, sowing distrust and disharmony. It must be held accountable, the lawsuit, obtained by Fox News, states.
Nunes is seeking at least $435,350,000 in compensatory and punitive damages.
CNN did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The lawsuit mocks the trusted source of CNNs story, Lev Parnas, a man recently indicted by the U.S. government and charged with multiple federal crimes. The CNN story said Parnas attorney told them his client was willing to tell Congress about Nunes travels. The suit includes a tweet sent by MSNBC justice and security analyst Matthew Miller, who publicly questioned Parnas credibility.

This may be a speed bump on Miss Vicky’s credit report. /s
As much as I like Nunes, and as much as I detest CNN, this is a nuisance suit with a fairy tale price tag.
It tells CNN that Nunes is mad at them, but I think the suit is going nowhere.
It just makes some lawyers some money for going through the motions.
Not holding my breath, but I hope he collects every penny
Disagree.
It is SLANDER. This was a LIE reported as NEWS to injure Devin Nunes.
This could have more “legs” than you think.
Nope, the suit has merit on its face that CNN published about Nunes’ “travels” that are false and defamatory being they showed a reckless disregard for the truth.
As far as I know, CNN never took down the story or retracted it even though Nunes denied their claim of his travels in its entirety.
Nunes claims they did it intentionally for political reasons.
If the case makes it to discovery, just like the Sandmann case, CNN is in very BIG trouble.
Lets Wrap This FReepathon Up, Folks Donate Today!
It’s a ridiculous amount of money. I am sure his team will say the price must be high to deter future false, derogatory stories. But it seems like a ludicrous number, arbitrarily derived.
Let’s hope this happens. If enough people sue and win the cases, maybe they will either go bankrupt or out of business. it’s a nice pipe dream but you never know.
Am I allowed to vote for all 3 charges?
The bad publicity with the basis of the case itself is very bad for CNN.
Should the case advance as the Sandmann case recently did, CNN is in for a world of hurt.
They are going to be badly exposed for their Fake News and not for it being an “accident.”
NO need to get personal.
Do you really think Nunes has a chance of winning this in Court for anything close to the amount asked?
Its a judgement call, not a virtue thing.
That would be great, if it did.
It’s good to see there’s more than one fighter on our side.
Nunes believes he can prove that CNN and Fredo reported the fake news WITH MALICE. Even MSNBC refused the false smear shopped around by the federally indicted Parnas through his lawyer.
The more publicity about CNN fake news during election season, the better.
There are entertaining excerpts from the lawsuit in the article. Wouldn’t mind reading the entire suit.
Agreed, unless he can prove actual malice which is very very difficult to prove... this is going nowhere.
Make CNN defend “nowhere.”
It is like story about the farmer whacking the mule with the 2x4.
Mule asks (or passerby) asks, “Why did do that?”
Farmer replies that he just wanted to get the mule’s attention.
Does he have to fall in line behind Nick Sandman, or can they simply divvy-up the spoils?
$435M will buy farmer Nunes a lot of John Deeres.
