The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative announced on Monday that it is considering tariffs as high as 100% on up to $2.4 billion worth of French products, following an investigation that concluded France's digital tax "discriminates against U.S. digital companies, such as Google, Apple, Facebook, and Amazon."
Why it matters: The proposal underscores the administration's willingness to expand the scope of President Trump's trade war beyond just China and use tariffs as a weapon to retaliate against other countries. It was announced around the same time that Trump landed in London for a NATO summit, where he will come face to face with French President Emmanuel Macron.
The list of products that could be targeted includes sparkling wine, French cheese, handbags and more.

We have plenty of cheese, whine, and old bags right here is the USA. France can bug off.
And what do they want the French to import from US?
Oh my! Wherever will I get parts for my Renault?..............
Liberals....................
We are in a post-war world. Countries are a bit like companies. A startup can take big risks and win big. They really don’t have all that much to lose. Meanwhile, large established companies are risk averse because they have a great deal to lose.
We are in an age where western civilization is simply to big and intertwined - like a large company - to ever consider something as risky as all-out war, with bombs and stuff. So nowadays wars are fought with trade, rhetoric, sanctions, etc. And if it ever DOES come to shooting, we find a nice little 3rd world country to use up all those arms against each other and kill two birds with one stone. The other bird being keeping the military industrial complex well fertilized and watered.
So our weapon against Frances actions against our countries is tariffs.
BTW, thanks to their new tax laws, France has lost tens of thousands of millionaires an billionaires. They must be hurting.
Trump says things like that to get his opponents off balance. It helps him with the negotiations that come afterwards.
The media will baptize this a “trade war with France.”
Sacre bleu! I hope Pete Buttigieg stocked up on French maid outfits in his size.
[Oh my! Wherever will I get parts for my Renault?..............]
Don’t they make some Tesla Model S parts in France?
Who’s going to make my S car go?
The media are terrible negotiators. Or maybe they are so driven by hatred that the give up all logical thinking.
Modern ones are very dependable especially the primal ones on a lower end.
Renault Logan or Duster SUV would run in exceed of 400,000 miles on very basic maintenance.
Logan is the most dependable vehicle in any market they sell it. Beats toyota easily.
The military industrial complex is ailing and about to be euthanized. Just give it a couple of Democratic administrations. When Ike made that speech, military spending was 10% of the economy. It is now 4%. Whereas non-defense government spending has soared from 18% to 32%. There is a government industrial complex, but it's in non-defense spending.
I see what you did there......................8^)
Oh no! You mean to tell me I can no longer purchase those POS LG appliances?
I once owned a Renault LeCar.
I am not proud of that.
Don’t know whether the LeCar was worse or the VW Rabbit.
I cant tell you how pleasing to me it is to see your post. I get so tired of the worn out use/misuse of the propagandist phrase ‘military industrial complex’ by people who have no idea what they are talking about, about what parts of govt are actually constitutional, and how much is wasted on ‘non-discretionary’ welfare spending or extra-constitutional waste.
Am I supposed to feel outraged over this? They discriminate against me.
Times change. It is long time since the worst Ladas are more dependable than the best of GM.
The same is true for Renault.
