White House won't participate in first Judiciary impeachment hearing

The White House on Sunday informed the House Judiciary Committee it will not participate in Wednesday's impeachment inquiry hearing but did not rule out taking part in future hearings.

"[W]e cannot fairly be expected to participate in a hearing while the witnesses are yet to be named and while it remains unclear whether theJudiciary Committee will afford the President a fair process through additional hearings," White House counsel Pat Cipollone wrote to Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.).

"More importantly, an invitation to an academic discussion with law professors does not begin to provide the President with any semblance of a fair process," Cipollone wrote. "Accordingly, under the current circumstances, we do not intend to participate in your Wednesday hearing."

I don't know about Las Vegas odds-makers; but, you could check out "prediction markets". For instance, "predictit.com" gives odds of impeachment by Dec. 31 at .43 yes to .57 no. Odds of an impeachment in the first term: .78 yes to .22 no. I think prediction markets are great tools; although, I can't vouch for the accuracy of Predictit. I’m not a bookie but I would put the odds heavily against a Senate trial. They have put off a vote until after the Horowitz report is made public. I think you will see Dems running for cover when that happens. Nobody up for election in 2020 will want to be associated with Adam Schiff or the DNC when it is revealed how toxic they are.

I agree with you completely. In addition, there will be several rat Senators who are running for pres that will have to come off the campaign trail to attend the trial in the Senate.

If they were sane and rational and had a shred of decency they would sit down and shut up for the next four years. So, of course they will find something else to yell about. I can’t imagine what it will be. It is doomed before it starts because they will have zero credibility. Honesty, I think this is for show, and the Democrats want to drag it out without going for impeachment, or are somehow trying to get ahead of what Barr and Durham are finding out. The Democrats are making a lot of noise, but not following through.
