China fears trade conflicts, climate change could pose threat to food security
South China Morning Post ^ | 12/1/2019 | Jane Cai

Last month the country’s leadership produced its first report on the issue in 23 years as the trade war with the US and other issues prompted a fresh look at how it can continue to feed its population

China badly needs to back-off on trade.

Now.

Yeah pumping CO2 the atmosphere will cause food shortages?

The Leftist echo chamber is so insanely ignorant about actual science.

They already don’t have any food security thanks to their idiot leadership. Their swine epidemic is disastrous - if things get worse for them or they have a couple crop failures, they will end up being worse off than the old USSR and have to import ridiculous amounts of food from the US.

Been saying all along - we need what they export to make phone calls, they need what we export to EAT.

Trump knows this is a once in a lifetime chance to break China and he’s going to do it.

I guess my hope that China had real scientists interested in real science was in vain.

Good luck growing enough food with plant-starving levels of CO2.

There's close to zero chance of that. Covering the planet in artificial photosynthesis (e.g. solar production of methane) would result in methane that would have to be stored or burned. Voila, CO2 back in the atmosphere. Same with algae producing fuels. Artificial photosynthesis producing solid carbon would only be as efficient as trees, maybe a bit more. Carbon capture of concentrated CO2 (e.g. from power plants) is just neutral, does not reduce ambient CO2.

The only way I can think of to get back to CO2 starvation is to develop an unlimited energy source like fusion and use it to capture ambient CO2. We have neither of those things right now.

That is quite a literal response to a facetious statement.

Why on earth would anyone want to do that?? The only real problem with China is their ruling party, not the nation or its people.

That is so awesome! China now cares about people surviving, unlike before when that government was killing 60+ million people.

Well, one thing we do have, is "CO2 starvation"....as there is practically 0% of CO2 in the atmosphere.

“China fears trade conflicts, climate change could pose threat to food security”

Well then, they best get to work in earnest and solve these problems with integrity

Then China should drop its tariffs, stop stealing tech, hacking, backstabbing and polluting if they want to eliminate trade tensions and ensure food security.

Was Mao concerned about “food security?” With communists, nothing is what they proffer.

“... prompted a fresh look at how it can continue to feed its population.”

I guess the poor agricultural techniques, combined with swine flu and limited hydrology applications have started to get them worried about feeding 1.8 billion people.

Hungry people don’t like leaders who invest spare money in the stock market. Is it time for the Chicoms to start eliminating the new middle class kulaks?

Exactly.

That is exactly right. And I am starting to expect also, that is the one thing they WILL NOT do.

Outside of the marxist globalist totalitarian’s driving the anti-science bus, the left is just pure stupid!

You would think the left wing / loud mouth / climate change / flat earthers would be happy if the Prez cut off trade with China.

But what you know, they are simultaneously angry with President Trump for threatening the very Chinese economy responsible for much of the the world’s Co2 !
