President Donald Trump mocked Newsweek after they reported Thursday he spent Thanksgiving golfing and tweeting. In fact, the president was secretly traveling to Afghanistan to visit deployed American troops. I thought Newsweek was out of business? The Newsweek story, first published at 10:16 a.m., was later updated to reflect the presidents visit.
This story has been substantially updated and edited at 6:17 pm EST to reflect the presidents surprise trip to Afghanistan, read an editors note after Trump Jr. mocked the news outlet.
The Washington Post sold Newsweek in 2010 for a dollar and changed hands several times before ending its print magazine in 2012. In 2018, Newsweek split from IBT Media into a standalone company.
A similar situation happened when President Trump visited the troops in Iraq during Christmas in 2018. NBC News reported Trump was the first president since 2002 not to visit the troops at Christmastime, while he was secretly traveling to Iraq, prompting widespread ridicule from Trump staff and his supporters.

In 2010, the WaCompost sold Newsweak for $1 (plus assumed liabilities). They were essentially Out Of Business.
Wasn’t there an old, very famous version of this in the 1950’s? “Dewey Beats Truman!” was the headline.
Even if what Newsweek first reported was true, that the president would spend Thanksgiving golfing and tweeting, so what? He sure as heck deserves a couple of days off here and there. I would require a year or two ‘off’ that mad carousel of Washington DC, were it me.
I was always happy when Obama went golfing. It was the best thing he could do for the country
When your office is bugged by the Deep State and crooked FBI, you have to step outside to speak freely.
Well, I think Dewey really did beat Truman, except for massive Democrap voter fraud at the end. They were just novices at it then, but they became experts over the years.
The news media truly is the “enemy of the people!”
Sold for a $1? Still too much
$1 is simply “consideration” an absolute must according to Contract Law. Most transactions now say $1 and other valuable consideration.
Good golly...President Trump is the MASTER at screwing over the media.
Its an easy mistake to make. They probably saw Alec Baldwin on the green and just assumed it was the president. Most of them get their updates from SNL anyway.
... and bicycling on his trike!
Even better when Congress is on vacation. IMHO, anything they do beyond passing a budget, approving judges and other minor dignitaries is too much.
3D chess Trump. And MSM tiddelywinks. I know it makes them hate themselves for being slow, trivial and stupid.
We can thank our lucky stars Obama played so much golf and didn’t care about judicial appointments.
