maybe Ive missed something.....but what kind of “chemical” plant was it????
I find it strange nobody is saying...
Because the plant makes more than one chemical.
They all are derived from petroleum.
It is effectively a huge refiner, but it doesn’t make gasoline, just other highly combustible compounds.
Monk said the blast occurred in an area of the plant that makes butadiene,
a chemical used to make synthetic rubber and other products.
They have a small ethylene plant there, and a C4 processing plant that produces Butadiene. I also haven’t seen or heard which part is involved.
I’ve been in that plant. I used to work with a guy was site manager there a few years ago. My company still sells to them.
I’m sure I’ll hear more. But for now... I’d assume it’s C4’s burning.
Several things.
Smoke from the fire has been drifting over my house the whole time and it doesn't look like the wind direction will be shifting that much.
Hopefully the distance will have reduced the PPM of anything dangerous that didn't burn off to a safe level.
