Queen Elizabeth II is apparently considering retiring in about 18 months so her son, Prince Charles, can assume the throne, reports in the UK said Wednesday.

The 93-year-old monarch is weighing stepping down around her 95th birthday, the same age that her husband, Prince Philip, withdrew from his royal duties, sources told the UK’s Express.

“Her Majesty is mindful of her age and wants to make sure when the time comes, the transition of the Crown is seamless,” a former senior member of the royal household told the outlet.

If there’s anyone who could bring the monarchy to a quick end it would be Chuckles.

I can really see Charles the Fool handing over massive power to the muzzies. He's always been a muzzie fan, and could really be seen as handing over his country on a silver platter to those invasive rodents. Elizabeth will spin in her grave, having helped in the fight to save her country from the Germans in WWII.

I don’t think anyone would hold it against her if she let go at age 95. Every day she remains she sets a new record for longest reign in British history. She is closing in now on 7 decades on the throne. If she lives as long as her mother she’ll be over 100 soon enough. Here are the trivia facts from wiki.

Elizabeth II: the longest-reigning monarch
On 9 September 2015 (at the age of 89 years, 141 days), Elizabeth II became the longest-reigning British monarch and the longest-reigning female monarch in world history.[3][4] On 23 May 2016 (at the age of 90 years, 32 days), her reign surpassed the claimed reign of James Francis Edward Stuart (the “Old Pretender”).[5] On 13 October 2016 (at the age of 90 years, 175 days), she became the world’s longest-reigning current monarch (and the world’s longest-serving current head of state) after the death of Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX), King of Thailand.[6][7]

If she is still reigning on –

18 July 2020 (at age 94 years, 88 days), she will have been queen for 25,000 days.[8]
6 February 2022 (at age 95 years, 291 days), she will celebrate her platinum jubilee, marking 70 years on the throne.[9]
27 May 2024 (at age 98 years, 36 days), she will be the longest-reigning monarch of a major European country, surpassing Louis XIV of France, who reigned for 72 years, 110 days.[10]

No it would be William. Any of Charles kids would come before the Queen’s children.

In April, Liz proposed Chuckles succeed her and the Commonwealth approved. He can choose any name he wishes. The ding bat could choose King Mo.

If Mayor Pete or Corey Booker we’re elected president, we would have our own Queen.

She does not pass it. Acts of Succession determine succession.

Once William and Harry were born, they jumped in front of Andrew. And now William’s children jump in front of Harry.

So Andrew is pretty far down the line now.

No. The line goes thru Charles. If he were bypassed, his son William would be the presumptive heir.

The. Crown on Netflix is a series devoted to Elizabeth and her reign. Some interesting insights into British politics , their version of the swamp, and the interrelationships between the monarcy and parliamentary process

Deep insights into Charles from a young age also.

If you like this type of stuff a good show to watch.

The queens sister a real hoot as she is anything but dignified. A rebel before her time played by Helen Bonham Carter

I had watched the 1st season. On binge-watching haitus for the moment. Saw that they changed the cast for season 3 and included Helen Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret. THAT is an inspired piece of casting!

Why does everyone keep saying Charles’ reign will be short? It could easily be 20 years. He’s got good genes.

Exactly. Both of his parents are in their 90's. His maternal grandmother hit 100.

Well, there was Charles the First (they cut his head off) and Charles the Second (”The easiest King and best bred man alive”). I guess Britain is ready for Charles the Last.

The Queen proposed that Charles succeed her as Head of the Commonwealth - not as King. While the Queen is both (and she is the first Head of the Commonwealth), there's no actual law or anything else that states any official succession for the position of Head of the Commonwealth - theoretically it could have gone to somebody else (and some people were actually suggesting some elder statesman from a Commonwealth country might be given the role).

Theoretically the Prince of Wales could choose any name on his accession to the throne but it would be extraordinary for him to choose anything other than one of his four names - Charles Philip Arthur George - and for various reasons, only Charles or George are likely among those choices.
