Queen Elizabeth may soon retire to hand ‘reigns’ to Prince Charles

Queen Elizabeth II is apparently considering retiring in about 18 months so her son, Prince Charles, can assume the throne, reports in the UK said Wednesday.

The 93-year-old monarch is weighing stepping down around her 95th birthday, the same age that her husband, Prince Philip, withdrew from his royal duties, sources told the UK’s Express.

“Her Majesty is mindful of her age and wants to make sure when the time comes, the transition of the Crown is seamless,” a former senior member of the royal household told the outlet.

The report makes a lot of sense. Putting Meghan and Harry in check and hammering Andrew for his derelictions were essential bits of old business to be cleared before stepping down from public duties. And the Queen will no doubt extract from Charles promises of good behavior and insist that he surround himself with reliable staff. Meanwhile, even in retirement, she will likely keep control of the family purse strings until her death. And when Elizabeth dies, Britain’s grief and heartfelt praise for her will no doubt do even more to recommend the example of her virtues to her family.

Well, that war is long over, and we have been at peace for over 200 years. The fact is that in a world of heathens and muslims, the English speaking people must stand together. We share the language of Shakespeare, the King James Bible, and the Book of Common Prayer. Yes, we are special.

I don’t think Elizabeth would ever step down. She respects the crown too much to ever do that, and she’s still tough as nails.

If there’s anyone who could bring the monarchy to a quick end it would be Chuckles.

When President Trump visited the UK recently, Prince Charles dutifully helped entertain him. I believe he will do what he needs to do (reign honorably) when the time comes.

While I have the same dislike for Chucky as you do, I think he has improved his image among Britons. He has somewhere around a 50% approval rating and a low “dislike” rating.

He won’t be loved like the Queen, but unless he is a complete bork, he won’t be disliked for the short time he reigns.

The currently living in-bred family has destroyed the once-great country. Why don’t they all quit, abdicate, turn over their wealth to the people?

I think the King/Queen was a figurehead even in 1776. The last time they were true autocrats was King Richard Coeur de Lion. Legally, King John became less all-powerful post the Magna carta. But the Hanoverians weakened the power of the throne (which had already been weakened thanks to Cromwell cutting off heads) by speaking mostly German

God NO!

I don’t particularly like monarchs, but the rest of the Royal family is a bunch of idiots, Liz is the last sane one. And Charles is likely the stupidest of the ones still living.

While it is mostly a ceremonial position, Charles would only further speed up to the rapid degradation of Britain.

She can hand over the reign or the reins but not the reigns.

Didn't the Crown announce some time ago that Charles's kingly name (when and if that day came) would be George VII?
