Jared Kushner’s new assignment: Overseeing the construction of Trump’s border wall
Washington Post ^ | 25 Nov, 2019 | Josh Dawsey and Josh Dawsey

Posted on 11/25/2019 7:06:53 PM PST by BeauBo

President Trump has made his son-in-law Jared Kushner the de facto project manager for constructing his border wall...

The president’s son-in-law and senior adviser is pressing U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to expedite the process of taking over private land needed for the project as the government seeks to meet Trump’s goal of erecting 450 miles of barriers along the U.S.-Mexico border by the end of 2020. More than 800 filings to seize private property will need to be made in the coming months if the government is going to succeed...

Kushner insists the administration remains on target to meet the president’s goal of 450 miles by the end of next year, a pace that will require construction to accelerate at least fourfold, according to government data reviewed by The Washington Post. The president’s son-in-law has set a goal of 30 to 35 miles of new barriers per month by spring, requiring crews to average a new linear mile of fencing every day.

Another indicator of the priority being given to building the wall.

Everything in the article reiterates the numbers we have been hearing, and that they are still on track to do 400 to 500 miles by the end of the first term. That is going to require exercising eminent domain through a few hundred privately owned parcels of land (a strip about 200 feet wide), and the use of the $3.6 billion in Military Construction funds that has not yet been spent, and for which the Ninth Circuit is now preparing a ruling.

So far, it appears that Congress will likely appropriate another $1.4 billion for the wall in 2020 (which I expect to see fund about 60 miles through Laredo City and Sector). That would also become available if they fail to pass appropriations, and go the whole year on continuing resolutions. They are also likely to either leave the door open to the President re-programming some Military money again.

The wall needs to be concrete with a path on top wide enough for a very small off road vehicle...

Will he be as successful with the wall as he has been with Middle East plan?

However the Border Patrol disagrees. The men and women who are actually charged with doing the job specifically requested a system they can see through.

The President as is his pattern in such matters tends to go with the requests of the boots on the ground.

President Trump is a builder but, he isn’t a border protection expert so, he tends to go with the desires of those who are.

Let's also understand that the first phases are the most vulnerable areas. And the progress is accelerating. Ann Coulter can suck it.

I was told by Bill Maher’s bimbo that a linear foot would never be built and that Trump was fooling his gullible and stupid supporters

It will be what the Border Patrol asked for, not your fantasy.

The bollard type fence-wall is also easier to repair if cartels or others damage it. A concrete structure could take weeks to repair if damaged in a remote area. It takes more specialized skills to construct, maintain and repair. The bollards are a much more cost-effective system.

Indeed. All good points. But, from interviews with the Border Patrols point of view, they wanted a barrier system that they could see through so they could see what is going on on the other side of the barrier.

Your points, all valid, simply add to the logic of the final design selection.

Is Jared a case study in nepotism? I have no real opinion of him. I know others here are not happy with his ‘assignments’ under Trump. I have no idea if he is just being given monitoring and reporting assignment to keep POTUS appraised of situations on the ground, or if he has real decision making power. It would be interesting to see a list of his ‘accomplishments’ in the last three years to help determine if he is really helpful or if this is just appeasing a family member. If I underestimate his qualifications, please educate me.

I take this assignment more of Trump wanting Jarad to quit bothering him with Leftism. Send him off to ‘Siberia’, and that will keep him from getting involved in policy, something that he has NO BUSINESS being involved in, as he seems to be as clueless as NeverTrumpers in understanding just why Trump was elected.

Based on the Traitors who work in the White House who are doing their best to undermine POTUS Trump, I certainly do not blame him for utilizing his SIL to oversee such an important part of his Agenda.

Too bad Don Jr. and Eric can’t work with him as well.

Is Jared getting rich off these assignments? If he were, that would be nepotism IMO.
As far as I know the Trumps and Jared are volunteers.

I really never even heard his name before trump ran, so I’m not saying anything bad or good about him. I just wonder why an unknown, to me, obviously not to POTUS, is assigned all these high vis tasks? POTUS must see something in him.
