Historical Parallels!

Posted on 11/24/2019 6:42:50 AM PST by cotton1706

- A prominent democrat runs for president, but loses the nomination to a younger more charismatic candidate, who goes on to win in November.

- Eight years later, that same prominent democrat runs again, this time getting the nomination.

- There is also a Supreme Court vacancy in a presidential election year, which is an issue in the November election.

- In November, the prominent democrat is defeated by a republican who is viscerally hated by the left.

- There are protests at the republican's inauguration and continue through his presidency.

- The Supreme Court vacancy is filled and another occurs the following year, which is also filled.

- In the following mid-term elections, despite all the protests, republicans gain seats in the Senate.

Sound familiar? This is not a story about Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and Donald Trump. It's a story about Hubert Humphrey, John Kennedy and Richard Nixon.

Hubert Humphrey lost the democrat nomination in 1960 to Kennedy, who went on to win the presidency. Humphrey ran again in 1968, this time getting the nomination. Also in 1968, Chief Justice Earl Warren announces his retirement. Humphrey loses to Nixon in November. Nixon fills Earl Warren's seat with Warren Burger, then the following year fills Abe Fortas' seat with Harry Blackmun. Republicans gain seats in the Senate in the 1970 mid-terms.

Historical parallels.

I tell you all this because in the fall of 1971, Supreme Court justice Hugo Black checked himself into a hospital, retired from the court, and died shortly thereafter.

Yesterday, Ruth Bader Ginsburg was admitted to the hospital.

I'm just saying, these parallels are getting scary.

Oh, and in 1972 the democrats nominated a far-leftist after the more mainstream candidates were defeated in the primaries. Nixon went on to win a 49 state landslide.

Historical parallels!

Except that Ginsburg will not retire. She’ll stay on the bench until she dies or a Democrat is elected, whichever comes first.

Maybe. But John Marshall Harlan ALSO retired and died in 1971!

Ginsberg knows she cannot retire. Ginsberg currently gets the best healthcare in the world as a leftist Supreme Court Justice. If she retired tomorrow, the rabid leftists would throw her under the bus, not giving a damn whether she lives another day.

You think the Rats are insane now with impeachment. Just wait till her S/C seat comes up for vote.

This being the 21st century, they’ll probably slip in a hologram with the sound of snoring on a loop.

I think the days of 49 state landslides are pretty much impossible, at least in the near future and under current conditions.

I do think the impeachment circus is probably equally about justification for denying Trump supreme court nominations in his second term as political advantage in 2020. “He was impeached, no supreme court nominations.”

I think you’re right. But I’m watching these events and am like “oh boy. What’s next??”

Some other parallels, candidates for the democrat nomination included a sitting congresswoman from Hawaii (Mink/Gabbard), an African-American woman (Chisolm/Harris) and the VP from the prior administration (Humphrey/Biden).

I recall HHH when he ran and the media referred to him as having a very high IQ.

Over the years experience has taught me that having a high IQ and being good at anything are traits seldom found in the same person.

I also recall actress Sharon Stone as being referred to as having a very high IQ. This girl may be cute, but she’s far from a good actress having to stoop mainly to porn type rolls and later on being real poor at other rolls.
